like something fun

only live 2 miles from work so no long commute

replacing 99 civic whch is boring anyway (and having problems not worth fixing) but I have time to buy and look around

considerting 05 mustang v6 manual from carmax

I'd LIKE to do some track events at VIR but am realistic that meeting my price and year requirements will be difficult..

input please. needs to be in the price and year spec

You might be able to find an 05 Nissan 350Z for around 15k...it would smoke that v6 mustang.

Yeah, I'd take an 00 S2000 over an 05 V6 Mustang any day of the week.

It's this kind of thinking that has the American car companies reeling with anguish.

Don't listen to these tools. They can eat all the rice they want. Go American baby!!!

Heck, who cares if the car is probably the worst performer in it's class. V6 and 210hp is plenty to get you from point A to point B. And gas milage is last on the list if you're only traveling 2 miles.

If you want to VIR then just throw a flowmaster exhaust and just the obnoxiously loud noise alone will make you go faster.

Shotty interior design/look/feel? Who cares! Just remember, you'll only be looking at it for 2 miles at a time anyways.

American all the way...

completely pointless, worthless automobile.

do you need a backseat or any significant level of practicality? open to both hardtops and convertibles?

just go buy something that you can afford to pay cash with, that would open you up to more options.

since it is technically an option, though probably not ideal for you since you're mentioning mustangs....

you could get a 2005 mazadaspeed miata for around 15k if you shop around, probably with ~ 30k miles

just throwing that out there, it would be fun as hell to throw around a track

You might be able to sneak into a Mazdaspeed 6 for a little over 15, or perhaps an RX-8? VW GTI? Honda Civic Si?

S2K or Miata would be good choices if you can live with the impracticality of a 2 seater convertible as your main mode of transportation, but do you really want to do that?

if you are even considering this and V6 Mustangs, do you really want a sports car? it doesn't sound like you know enough about what you want that you'd really have any appreciation for a sports car. you might as well get something that drives well, but is more practical.

I'll suggest what I always suggest, and that's an E46 BMW. 325i, 325ci, maybe a 330i or 330ci if you find a good deal on one (you can get any of these for <$15k, but I'd just get the 325 and save the money)

I dunno, it hasn't really inconvenienced me that much.

Still, I think a 350Z would be a good choice for you. You won't find an '04 S2000 (or newer) for less than $15k unless its auction or extremely high mileage.

so far you've picked out the absolute gayest and worst possible options for that kind of money. limiting it to 2005 and newer is gay as fuck and equally as retarded as most of your suggestions thus far. a V6 mustang? are you serious? an eclipse? come on..all of these cars are slower than my fucking lincoln.

first if you want to do track events anywhere then you should forget about anything domestic ESPECIALLY a mustang. Not sure if you've seen arial photos of VIR but it does have a turn or two. So you're pretty much out of luck when it comes to braking for those turns and actually turning.

if we're talking STi's you could lowball an Evo VIII for 15k. a few years ago I was seeing a couple 03 Evo VIII's going for ~15k

'Vette.

and for 15k, he could still get an early C5.

but yeah, I don't even know where to start with this thread. Every indication is that there's no reason to recommend sports cars to him, as that isn't the kind of car he's interested in, and even if he had it, I don't really think he'd have any appreciation for it.

on the other hand, he says he wants to do track days. I feel like I'm trying to divide by zero here or something.

I still say get something like a G35 sedan or an E46 BMW, like a 325i, then do a track day here and there if he wants to.

horrible idea. Granted he lives 2 miles away from work but if this is his only car a Vette would be the worst idea ever.

I think a C5 would be a fine daily driver.

I still don't think he should get one, because (A) he'd have no idea what to do with it, and (B) if you're not really a die-hard car guy, and you have a 2 mile daily commute, I'd get something cheaper than $15k.

^While the 944 does have two tiny bucket seats in the rear, they weren't used for people. I've done fine without them for the past 3 years so far.

having a true two seater does get old after awhile and can occasionally be an inconvenience but for the most part it makes a perfectly fine DD. I wouldn't call someone off their rocker. It really depends on their needs for a vehicle.

sorry, not all of us want to drive some tin can sedan with a big wing on the back. The S2000 does just fine as a DD for me (30 mile round trip commute every day), and a Corvette would be even better as it has a very large trunk.

yeah, between my turbo miata and my s2000, I spent probably close to 3 years daily driving 2-seaters, including a number of long trips. the only reason i need something with more than 2 seats now is my daughter.

It's doable, but then you have to disable the airbag. also, i'm not sure how much stuff I'll be transporting between FL/GA and NC when she comes to stay with me for a week or two. I could probably fit it all without any problem (especially in a Corvette), but I don't know.

the s2000 would require a roll bar, too, and that's an additional expense and would require chopping up the interior. as far as the 'Vette goes, I don't know...I'd rather have an E46 M3 than a C5, and I don't want to spend the money for a C6. On the other hand, a C5 can be found for cheaper than an E46 M3.
