I read the unemployment rate for like 16-19 year olds is like 20% and the next highest, 20 somethings....now is the time where experience outweighs youth....

It was probably worse for me because I was there without a car. So my only options were a shitty sports bar, a Wal Mart, and a Subway. I heard there were pretty decent clubs downtown, but the cab ride was like $30 so it wasn't even worth it.

Head down to the beaches, though...there are some nice ones.

I feel you on that. But even flying over southern Alabama on a daily basis is depressing.

I can't get into any of the closer beaches, too over-developed. Dauphin Island and the Mobile area is alright if you can ignore the oil derricks.

been there once. I couldn't live there but I can appreciate a brief foray into NYC. Brief.

Log on to your banks website when you get a chance. Watching the balance climb with practically zero bills and practically zero taxes generally made me happy.

I miss the mild winters there, i know you guys just got some snow, but its so cold here all the time, sometimes it feels like your nostrils are actually icing up. And the snow never goes away.

I've been in Seattle going on 6 years now, and as great as the Pacific NW is... I do miss NC.

I miss Raleigh/NC State area, Appalachian mts., OBX, and Wilmington. I miss East Carolina
BBQ, and El Rodeo's tacos and chile rellenos. I miss the friendliness of southern hospitality,
I miss standing around the firebarrel drinking Milwaukee's Best Light.

my wife and i were talking about this last night.... people in Seattle aren't friendly. they're
polite, but for a lot of people here it seems theres like a low-level passive aggressiveness
and an almost neurotic desire obsession with "rules"

but I dont miss the weather and the uneducated, incurious rednecks. And I don't miss
people who went to UNC.

I always liked Orange Beach. It's developed in terms of a bunch of high-rise condos, but not much else. Not crowded, either.

Also, the airstrip on Dauphin Island is cool...it's just a little strip of land built up into the water. The river down by Mobile is fun to run in an airplane, too...of course, you'll be doing it at 100 kts. We did it at like 400 kts, which makes it even more fun (of course, we were at probably 300-400'; you'll do it a lot lower than that in a helo).

Cruise speed for the TH-67 is a blistering 90 KIAS. VNE for gross weight above 3200lbs is 122KIAS. Retreating blade stall is a mother-fucker.

We don't do cross country until we do IFR. Cruise altitude for IFR flights is ~ 4000 MSL.

I'll have to save my real joy-riding for Afghanistan

A friend of mine in the Va mountians was telling me they had 2" of snow as of 8pm last night when he was out shed hunting. bastard.
