Who has taken one? For how long did you take it? Tell me about your experience.
1/16/2009 11:03:17 PM
I did.I vowed never to talk directly to BridgetSPK for a few years. It's going pretty well, I think.]
1/16/2009 11:05:50 PM
Well, if you're employed it's damn near impossible.I've done it before, it's a very interesting experience. I've done a weekend on a couple of occasions. When I've lived alone I've gone about a week in semi-silence (with the exception of work).
1/16/2009 11:10:56 PM
Vow of Silence like "Oh I'll not tell your secret" or silent treatment type petty shit
1/16/2009 11:12:23 PM
^Like, no speaking at all to anybody about anything.I've been considering it. Just wanna know if other people have done it too.
1/16/2009 11:32:45 PM
Oh yes, when it gets to that point where you don't want to talk to them just fucking cut them off. It feels great. Once I commit to it I never turn back, fuck you later.
1/16/2009 11:33:48 PM
I don't think you quite get it, Kiwi
1/16/2009 11:35:05 PM
I wouldn't do anything temporary. If I need to stop talking to someone about anything then it's pretty serious and calls for the ultimate punishmentRID OF THEM
1/16/2009 11:36:08 PM
alright, now I KNOW that you don't quite get it
1/16/2009 11:37:02 PM
This vow of silence is not talking to anyone at all, not just specific people.
1/16/2009 11:37:08 PM
ohaha no never done that[Edited on January 16, 2009 at 11:38 PM. Reason : keyword: anybody]
1/16/2009 11:37:58 PM
Just when I thought you couldn't be any fucking dumber you go and bump up the stupid to another level. It's truly impressive.
1/16/2009 11:42:39 PM
jesus christ kiwi.
1/16/2009 11:43:24 PM
semi-epic lulzonly kiwi could hijack a thread with sheer stupidity/ignorance, or at least she's the best at it...[Edited on January 17, 2009 at 12:13 AM. Reason : 38000 ! ]
1/17/2009 12:12:53 AM
Am I the only person who thinks that "not talking to anyone" is the worst form of protest in the entire world? (HEY, I DON'T LIKE WHAT YOU'RE DOING)"...."Wouldn't stop me.
1/17/2009 12:21:39 AM
it's callede selective reading you fucks
1/17/2009 12:29:59 AM
1/17/2009 12:30:31 AM
every night whilst i slumberI'm Big Business and i approved this message.
1/17/2009 12:30:43 AM
AHA, I assumed Kiwi was trolling...turns out it was "selective reading" that included not understanding the basic definition of "vow of silence."Anyway, AstralEngine, I'm really not interested in protesting anything. I just need to think, not speak.I wanna hear more about other folks and their experiences. I'll keep bttting this thread.
1/17/2009 1:04:20 AM
Then just don't talkWhy turn it into a vow? You're better off taking a tent to the mountains for a weekend.[Edited on January 17, 2009 at 1:06 AM. Reason : and don't turn on the radio while driving]
1/17/2009 1:06:38 AM
I can only hope if you toook this vow it would also include posting on TWW.
1/17/2009 1:17:15 AM
^^ I did the camping solo for a weekend once. It definitely helped with thinking.
1/17/2009 2:08:38 AM
Didn't work out well for Kramer
1/17/2009 9:04:59 AM
1/17/2009 10:45:03 AM
just stop talking to the person if you hate them that much
1/17/2009 10:45:05 AM
^^The whole goal isn't just introspection, I guess. I'm interested in talking less overall. Not gossiping. Saving my words for when they matter. Thinking more. And I don't wanna just do it for the weekend--I've done that many times. I wanna try for a month or more. You know, just as an exercise to see if I can do it, and if I succeed, see what happens, how it makes me feel. There might be some valuable benefits, I think.Has anybody tried this for a somewhat long period of time?[Edited on January 28, 2009 at 2:24 PM. Reason : sss]
1/28/2009 2:22:29 PM
i just realized i haven't seen BridgetSPK post much lately
1/28/2009 2:24:59 PM
indeed
1/28/2009 2:27:40 PM
BridgetSPK, do you have a job or are you in schooli dont know how you could pull this off being involved with either or.will you be caring a chalk board around your neck to communicate? sign language? FDT?
1/28/2009 2:39:13 PM
All my classes are on-line. I would be involved in some internet communication for those classes.I also planned to respond to people's texts so as not to be rude. But otherwise, nothing. No chalkboard. No TWW. No signing. My biggest concern is neglecting my friends and family so I'd have to make up for words with actions, like waking up early and scraping the ice off my roomie's car, baking treats for people, and other little things like that.
1/28/2009 2:48:02 PM
my sister stayed at this monastery once and had to take a vow of silence while she was there, she came back really refreshed
1/28/2009 3:04:50 PM
This is the stupidest fucking thing ever. I mean what is the point? Besides to get attention.Oh wait, I get it now.
1/28/2009 3:15:00 PM
1/28/2009 3:31:09 PM
^,^^^This is what I want to hear. I wanna be unusually refreshed!^^It's not for attention, dude. If I wanted attention, I'd just come here and talk about my smelly vag.Anyway, I won't be speaking so I don't intend to like go out with friends and draw attention to that fact. Plus, most of my friends are busy professionals. They could easily go a month with just a few texts from me and not think a thing of it.Anyway, I thought there would be more people who've tried it or at least be intrigued by the idea.[Edited on January 28, 2009 at 3:42 PM.
