slow day in the life of the Deal Dealer.

i accidently walked over to those mean streets of durham (across the street) and i saw her in this big coat. i thought nothing of it. she seemed a bit sketch but i figured i could out run her if she pulled a knife on me...

she comes pimpin up to me with one hand in her coat... looking from side to side as if checking for witnesses... my heart beats faster. she is small... but the big coat gave her a very sinister look that was only emphasized by my already very strong fear of that rough neighbor "hood". she gets up to me and as I start to toss my wallet at her she pulls her coat open flinging her hands toward me while saying the words that made my heart skip a beat.

"yo yo yo homie i got dem coupons... you on dis shit? double coupons at lowes food son... i can get you that oatmeal you been lookin fo... cheap son... cheap!.. can't fuck wit that son!"

I would have spent $632 w/o coupons and sales in January but I only spent $191

That's a savings of $441

I've been shopping a lot more at Super Target lately

they really are cheaper than a grocery store

my favorite salsa is Herdez...it's like $3.50 at Lowes Food and $3.99 at Harris Teeter. It's $1.58 at Super Target. HOLLA

if i lived in the area i'd hire one of you to do it for me! i dont really have the time or patience to figure it out. im super organized so i'd have that going for me but i dont have time to watch sales, exp dates and doubling and triping coupon days

maybe you should offer your services to someone and have them pay you half of what you saved them!

...and you can send me 20% for the idea

We get this magazine here in Greensboro every month called Grapevine Magazine. It just comes free in the mail, and always has a bunch of coupons for local restaurants. Several buy 1 get 1 frees to sportsbars, sandwich places, and of course, mexican restaurants.

The problem with most coupons is that they're for crap I don't eat in the first place.
Also, they're almost always for expensive name-brand items, which cost more to begin with.

Find me some coupons for vegetables (nothing added -- no unnecessary packaging)
Find me some coupons for fresh meat (fresh, not pre-packaged)
Find me some coupons for generic "pantry items" (no expensive name-brands)
Find me some coupons for eggs (not egg products, just plain eggs)
Find me some coupons for block cheese (not expensive pre-shredded or sliced)
etc.

You see, just buy a few months worth of things when they're buy-one-get-one-free.
Coupons shouldn't be used unless you either already regularly buy the item, or the only reason you don't already regularly buy the item is because it's too expensive.
In other words, don't buy junk you wouldn't have otherwise bought just because it's on sale.

Do you ever buy in bulk, like from Costco? I usually go with a friend and we just split everything down the middle. I probably have at least a 6 month supply of toilet paper and paper towels right now.

I do from BJ's

b/c they issue store coupons plus let you use manufacturer's coupons w/ the store coupons...OH and they let you use as many coupons as there are seperate UPC codes...So for 4 kleenx boxes bundled together, they will let you use 4 coupons b/c there are 4 seperate UPC codes

If you couponed, you would save waaaaaaay more than what you pay for the paper.
The first two sunday papers on this sub ($2) paid for the entire thing ($13 for 13 weeks)

They're out there. Of the top of my head: tyson, del monte, hormel canned chili (not quite what you had in mind, but the vegetarian is up the alley I see you in ), eggland's best, misc spices, sugar, baking powder, cornstarch, canned milk...

Yes and no. I like couscous. It's a staple of my diet: I wait until the last possible minute to eat, am trying to eat healthy, and love carbs. Couscous is something I make soooooooooo tasty at home, quickly, and mixes well with vegetables.
I buy the boxed stuff, and a fair amount of it. Why? On sale + Qs, it can be cheaper than in bulk.

i.e., you don't know how to coupon. You're sitting there going "LIES" to my statement, but it's true. Wanna know how I know? You're stating the obvious. And you missed one: When it's BOGO, coupon away. It's a couponer's wet dream if it's BOGO and the coupons are good.

Just keep tabs on the coupon thread in the lobby. You will learn lots, and probably start couponing

Wolfy, I used to do that too. Now I get everything on sale+Qs. Well, at least the soap/shampoo/lotion stuff. I still get TP in bulk. It helps that the kroger by me is FOREVER marking stuff down to mere pennies per item, and they double Qs up to $0.50.

Oh yeah: I'm picky about TP.

Plain old scott for me. I'm on my last roll, but I'm poor. I have to decide how much I hate the fluffy stuff soon, since Z bought fluffy scott last time
^Just start reading the couponing thread in the lounge, and please, for the love of god, post any questions you have! They've probably been answered, but that thread is so long now that it's fair game to ask again.
But the quick version:
1) know your prices. Don't rely on one store to come to a baseline, everyday, usual price
2) build up a stock of coupons
3) Then stock your pantry
