It's been on TV a lot recently. A totally underrated movie that isn't appreciated by people like it should be.

yeah, everyone I've talked to loves it.
just because a 10 year old movie hasn't turned into a classic doesn't mean it's underrated.

fyi, the town it was filmed in is on the beach in the FLorida Panhandle, called Seaside. It's about 30 minutes from my g'parents house, and you can drive through it and it feels a lot like the movie. It's a super-planned town, with all brick roads and perfect houses and landscaping and stuff.
You can see the central square here in GMaps (also avialable in Street View), surrounded by perfect city blocks http://tinyurl.com/9szuh2
When filiming the movie they put up big backdrops behind the central square to make it look like more of a city

under-rated? I don't think so. Everyone i know loves it. And it received great reviews at its release.

and under-advertised? I don't know if that was a joke or not, but i dont know how much advertising you do on a 10 year old movie.

its one of jim carrey's best performances. helped bring hime out of the slapstick he was known for and opened him up to some stronger roles later in his career.

Ok, maybe underrated isn't appropriate. But I'm still surprised at the number of people who haven't seen or even heard of this movie.

yea i know what you were going for with the thread. I run across that quite a bit when this movie ever comes up in conversation: "oh yea ive never actually seen that." More so than other movies that are among my favorites.

^^I wish it had. What I really wanted to see is what he did once he left.

except for IRL where he has joined forces with girlfriend Jenny McCarthy in a massive anti-vaccination campaign, putting 10s of thousands of kids at risk of sometimes deadly diseases that can easily be prevented with simple and harmless shots.

That one was ok, pretty funny, but I consider it a borderline slapstick movie. (See also: Fun with Dick and Jane)

In other words, I don't think it fits on that list.

I kinda like that it ends when it does. You cheer for him when he leaves, and then the rest is left wide open to whatever you think it should be.

I didn't really care for it. EdTV was more believable.

not nearly as good of a movie, however.
