I'm going to grad school this fall, so I need something to do until then. I have a few options for jobs in the meantime

pay is about the same between the two jobs

Job A, where I am currently employed
-long hours (although people claim the hours will get better in the next few months)
-physically hard work
-high stress environment
-dirty, run down building
-health/dental/vision insurance, plus other benefits (401k, etc)

Job B is seasonal employment, so I'd only be able to work there February-July, but that's all I'd likely need anyways
-set hours
-not exciting, but easier work than job A
-totally laid back, absolutely no stress whatsoever
-no benefits

basically, how important is it to have health insurance for a few months?

A, because I like a challenge, and it would probably help you more down the road when looking for other jobs.

B if you think you won't break anything, and if the pay is pretty much just as good.

Just forget I ever said anything on the topic. I should have realized that I was going to be arguing in a circle with a group of people that sit on these forums all day and have claimed this website to be their turf. Take it easy.

A is pretty much a mindless job, and isn't likely to provide useful experience

Also, I could probably cobra my health insurance from A for a while, so for $100-150 a month I could have basic health coverage

it's basically something to keep me busy until this fall

you could also look into short-term health insurance from blue cross or something, was pretty cheap when i needed a month in between school/work not too long ago (could go up to 6 months, i think)

i was off my mom's insurance for the few months after graduation... thought i'd be alright

surprise!! appendicitis!! emergency appendectomy

(turns out i was still on, but my mom had still been paying the student discounted price; still waiting on the claim to pan out)

keep the insurance, buddy
or get some for cheap... definitely worth it

in the situation i am in right now i would highly highly recommend keeping some sort of health insurance. you can get your own personal plan. it will suck to pay for but if you have ~130 a month you can pay for your own. i did it. and it wasn't the BEST and it sucked paying, but seriously....stay insured.

yea hospital bills and even urgent care bills are expensive. like when i cut my finger last year i got it stitched back up at the urgent care. my copay was like 50 bucks and when the statement came (the thing that is like "THIS IS NOT A BILL") and had all the "services rendered" or whatever on it, the thing was like 600 dollars. they had like "iv therapy - 300"

wanna know what iv therapy was? a little cup of saline that i stuck my finger in while it bled.

i mean you don't even have to be in a car wreck or have cancer to have something stupid happen (like me cutting my finger while cooking). i guess it is a risk people are willing to take (esp if it is just for a little while) but i always feel like right when i take a risk like that, something bad happens.

^ yea. if job number 2 doesn't pay enough to allow you to ge tyour own policy for like 120/month, then if something happens you definitely might be in a bind (like a 20,000 medical bill)
