The first homicide of the year was on Jan 8? That's a bit late, isn't it?

Aren't there something like 36,500 murders in the US each year? That makes 100 a day. Which means the first homicide of the year should have been at 00:14:24 on Jan 1.

Or maybe they mean in Wells, Maine?!
