After our guys settled down in Cameron indoor, it was impressive the way they held there on in the first half going into halftime...and it was 'Duke' of all teams they were playing, but around the 8:45 mark of the 2nd half, it seem as if half the team ran out of gas and the other half just got tired of playing defense. Ive never seen so many uncontested shots giving up by our squad???

One of the reasons why I always loved watching Julius Hodge and Marcus Melvin and Anthony Grundy was b/c they always played with so much heart win or lose. THey kept us in most of our games until the very end and NEVER gave up an uncontested shot.....so my question is who is our Juluis Hodge, Marcus Melvin, or Anthony Grundy with this squad....or will State fans have to wait until the next recruiting class? Im rooting for Sidney big time to succeed here, it just goes to show how great we had it when we had players of the caliber of Jules, Melvin, and Grundy....

Nonetheless....Go Pack....

Not sure why you are lumping Melvin with grundy and hodge. I liked Melvin as a player, but he played like a less skilled brandon costner.

I'd agree that they played with more heart and desire, but both of those players, especially Melvin, made alot of the same boneheaded turnovers and mental lapses on defense as our current players do.

NCSU has had the same problem since Hodge was still here.

We always have teams that can play 30 minutes of great basketball.

Unfortunately, the game is 40 minutes long.

Melvin always seemed to give us a handful of 3's whenever we needed them. He def. was good at lighting a fire under some of the other players if he felt they werent puling there weight. Plus like Grundy and Hodge he seemed to always want to the ball regardless if the play was always made.

But he did have one hell of a 3 pt shooting percentage-maybe someone can give us Melvin's 4 year stats..??

Melvin shot 37.7% from 3 in his four years.

For the sake of comparison, Redick shot 40.5%.

Tracy Smith could be Julius Hodge if he found a handle, could pass, could defend and could make a FT.

Tracy Smith and Julius Hodge are completely different style players. I think if Tracy were hungry he could eat Jules.

Yeah but even if Jules was a skinny bastard, he FORCED every team in the ACC we played to double or at the least put there best defender on him and even then he would still score his 25 pts.

Tracy could turn into the next Julius Hodge,..but he has to become a more all around performer.

Marcus Melvin was good for a turnover and stupid foul at the end of every close game. And regardless of what you thought of the refs, he lost the game for us against Vandy in the tourney. He was incredibly talented but also incredibly careless with the ball in the clutch. Brandon Costner is an apt comparison, as is Lamar Odom.
