Should I be worried?

It says it's from the Sheriff's Department Civil Division. I don't think I did anything illegal, but what does the civil division do? They can't possibly be repossessing something...

You should probably not make such an ambiguous OP so that we could actually help you....

in my experience,

if the police want you for something, they don't leave a note on the door.

if you are in trouble, it's probably minor shit.

edit, oh, your ass is being evicted. nice job.

if it is from the Civil division then they are probably trying to serve you with some sort of paperwork. Is there anyone that might want to sue you for any reason?

or yeah, could be an eviction notice if you haven't paid your rent

^^^^ I thought it might be about someone suing me. I just BOUGHT this house and I'm ahead on the payments. I own my car and I've paid all my utilities. I live alone, threw no parties, I don't leave the lights on outside, or make a lot of noise.

The Note says:

BRUNSWICK COUNTY
SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT

{Name of Officer}
Civil Division

{Phone Number}
{Extension}

I called but he didn't answer.

The police found a human head with a note in its mouth the other day. You know what the note said?

Did it have your name on it? If not it is likely that it was meant for the previous owner.

ooh, that's another good one

maybe he's trying to serve you with a subpoena (though you don't have to serve those by sheriff--they can just do certified mail return receipt restricted delivery)--been a witness to any accidents in the past 3-5 years?

any passengers in your or his car? you may get served (with a cc to your insurance company) in that situation as well if they are suing for injures and damages

You can get subpoenaed as a witness for a wreck if the other driver is being charged with a criminal offense. When I got hit by a drunk driver I had to go into court and testify as to who was driving the car. We were all out of the cars by the time the cops got there and I was the only person who technically witnessed the drunk behind the wheel.

They just mailed the subpoena to me though. Not even a certified letter or anything.

Maybe he is trying to notify you that you won a free boat and you just need to come to the warehouse next to the police station to pick it up.

Interesting...very interesting.

You could be called in as a witness to just about anything...perhaps something you don't even remember as significant.

Or you could be getting sued for millions of dollars.

i wouldnt worry about it too much
if your caught up on payments etc...
like someone said it could be someone from previous....
in that case they dont have to serve the person...just the property..i know that doesnt make sense

hmm.. have you checked your credit lately? a friend of mine checked his credit and saw that he'd been charged by a flooring company for something, and then found out that this company was going to sue him because he hadn't paid his bill. only thing was, it wasn't my friend that owed the company - he'd never done ANY business with them. it was some guy with the same name that owed money, but somehow, it got on my friend's credit. it was such a clusterfuck
