My fiance and I are re-doing the office. I went from a desk wtih a lot of drawers and some shelves to a desk with three drawers and whatever storage I put up on the wall.

This is the wall that's available:


These are the existing shelves. There will be two more beneath, and they'll be shorter - about the width of the brackets. He is suggesting that I do all my shelves like this, or something like this. These aren't going anywhere. We just put them up, and I've got a good idea of what's going to go on these. Things like my old textbooks and notes that I'm keeping, photo albums and boxes of prints, and I wanna get some cute, girly boxes for the lower shelves for stuff.

Honestly, with what I can see from the pictures and stuff, I would keep with the shelf theme. Since you already have those there, and you can get nice decorative boxes to hold stuff for a fairly affordable price, I'd stick with it. As long as you can reach everything (with a step stool or as is), I think that could work.

um, this would probably only work if you took down the shelves. but you could find some versions of these, and mount them to the wall.



the only way you're gonna get something prettier is to start fresh, because you really don't have much wall space once those shelves are up.

my suggestion is to rip out the carpet if there is hardwood floors underneath
also you need to lose the fan, and install several in ceiling lights that dont hang too low, that will give you a much more spacious looking room,
also the shelves look really messy, i think you need more dividers in between so things dont get messy
the wall paint is good but without good lighting it looks like a dungeon

but most of all you need to clean up and organize

That's another project, as is painting the walls. So...that's when a new light fixture will happen. All home improvement stuff has been on hold while he travels for business

Working on the lighting We've got a couple table lamps that I'll scatter, and I'm trying to figure out a classy way to use rope/xmas lights /confession

He's all 'what's wrong with the ceiling fan light?' Uhm, well, hon, it looks like shit and is dated and depressing and casts shadows and it's the wrong color and I just don't like it.

It also just dawned on me a few minutes ago...with my desk right by the window, I can finally have some plants That'll go a ways towards mixing up things.
