Next month I have to decide if

a) I stay in Japan another year in my current job
b) I return to the States and try to find a new job

Since you guys actually know what the economy is like back home, which would you choose?

Naw, don't hate it, but I've already been here 3 years. I'm feeling the itch to go back to FREEDOM and DEMOCRACY and stuff.

I'd try to find a job here before coming back

Just trying will reveal how fucking difficult it is

^^ True, but technically I need to make my decision to recontract in 2 weeks. Which is bullcrap because who is going to hire someone 6 months out from when they can start?

^ I'm sure I can find a job. Is it a job I want to do is another question.

It's a bit easier when you're still in school and going for something entry level

actually it wasn't entry level and it was halfway across the country, you're just making excuses

[Edited on January 25, 2009 at 7:07 PM. Reason : i get at least 2-3 calls a week from headhunters, you can't tell me there arent jobs out there]

^^ Nope, not making excuses. I've put my resume in for pretty much every job in my field. To be fair to them a lot of them won't even be screening applicants until Feb, which sucks for me.

I'd stay in Japan where you have a job. Things are not looking good and just going to get way worse here in the next 6 months IMO.

Are there any actual projections on when things will start to get better in America?

Lots of predictions. Some say it'll start to improve at the end of 2009, some say we won't hit rock bottom for a couple years yet.

stay in Japan, at least for another 6-12 months. Shit, go find a job in China if you want to leave Japan. Just stay out in Asia.

^^ I'm doing JET. Best pay/benefits in Japan for the most part.

^ Problem is if I recontract I'm committed until July of 2010. I could break my contract but that would make me a dick and they wouldn't give me my plane ticket home

stay in Japan, I love your threads about what new phrases/comics your students are coming up with.

I'd stay over there for now. At the very least have a job lined up before you come home..if you can't find one, stay.

another vote for staying. If you're tired of Japan, find some other country you can go to, just don't come back here.
