I think in some cases you can tell a lot about a girl (or guy) you are dating by their driving habits. Back in December I was seeing a girl for a little while and witnessing her drive made me question her a bit. On the first 3 dates I drove, and on the 4th date she kind of planned things and picked me up.

She drive a Civic with a manual transmission. I like that skill in a girl. However, she had a few habits that concerned me. She got easily distracted. She took her hands off the wheel completely for a second to mess with a CD she was looking for (didn't have an ipod setup). She told me about a few times she got completely lost trying something. Girls with a bad sense of direction are a turnoff to me. And then I noticed she would not pay a whole lot of attention sometimes and follow too close, then pass without a signal.

Her car was also full of clutter inside--not that everyone should have a spotless car or anything, but people with significant clutter in their car often have other forms of disorganization in their life. Finally, I noticed she had an exhaust manifold leak so the car sounded pretty bad when you are outside the car. I know she worked hard and had the money to fix it if she really wanted to, but she didn't care.

Due to other reasons, we didn't end up really seeing each other after that, but I really started to rethink her from that experience. She came across as a bit neurotic and not so attractive as a long term girl.

if she was really neurotic, wouldn´t her car have been immaculately cleaned and cared for, all signals in place and hands always at 10 & 2?

i once dated a girl who wouldn't turn left into parking spots and claimed it was because she was incapable of doing so. This was a major turn off.

neurosis:

1. Also called psychoneurosis. a functional disorder in which feelings of anxiety, obsessional thoughts, compulsive acts, and physical complaints without objective evidence of disease, in various degrees and patterns, dominate the personality.
2. a relatively mild personality disorder typified by excessive anxiety or indecision and a degree of social or interpersonal maladjustment.

you don't have to be an obsessive neat freak etc to be neurotic. it is a broadly defined term. she seemed to be obsessive about the music playing in the car and she would freak about where she needed to turn to get where she wanted to go, etc. She also did tell me how she constantly gets headaches and is sick often and stuff. It was unsettling, because she had a really funny side to her that was awesome to be around (ugh moodiness).

Don't get caught up in my Tdub psychiatry diagnosis here

As long as she doesn't make constant stupid errors of judgment, I think you may have found a winner. Seriously, you are going to live a lonely life if you need the woman to be able to drive up to your standards.

even though my wife hates receiving tips/advice while driving like pretty much everyone - there has been some improvements in her driving since we've been together (at least while I'm in the car) most notably imho she no longer rides in the left lane on the highway anymore

It's no harder to get a girl who can drive than to get a girl at all.

A girl who can drive well, on the other hand...

says the guy who continually bumps a thread he made years ago that's barely cracked a few pages that obviously no one cares about

that is filled with vomiting and shitting on a car then driving it around a parking long like a fucking child.

I took my wife (who's a good driver but won't reverse into spaces or drive anything larger than her maxima) to go-kart racing thing called Victory Lanes in CHarlotte. Fast karts. It was hilarious how slowly she was going; she didn't have any urge to race at all. She felt perfectly fine puttering around with no sense of corner carving. "I don't want to race, you guys were going so fast!" I thought it was hilarious and called her "driving miss daisy" for a while after that.

My fiance keeps telling me I drive slow now (since the accident, and since the $3+ gas days)

I just remind him of how I used to drive, and ask him which he prefers. That usually shuts him up

I have a shitty immune system and have gotten headaches since i was a child, doesn't mean I completely shut down - I take meds and I get over it.
Why is that even a factor in your severely overly-judgemental brain vomit?

At least she's not like the girl I passed on 40 this morning. She was driving with her knee, texting on her phone with one hand and doing her makeup with the other.

Find one that's decent, and get her in on a couple track days or a driving school.

I just need a track car or bike first.

my gf can drive, probably better than me, and she knows where she's going, the problem comes up when she's giving directions of little to no time before the actual turn. though this isn't a problem the majority of the time.

hahahahahaha this thread makes me lol

Perhaps this is my problem... although I don't have issues parking left or right in parking spots... but I may or may not have gotten super lost recently... in the middle of the night...with my date in tow

I too drive a Civic with manual transmission. Arghx, did we go on a date?

I already went through my racing phase and joined the SCCA. I HATE big soccer mom cars.

I want to be the mom that drops off the kids in the silver porche

I try to keep the inside of my car neat and clean, and other facets of my life are extremely disorganized. My Dad's car is usually full of papers and other clutter, and he is for the most part a very organized person. Unless you're saying this applies to females only, I don't think it's really a valid indicator.

Summation: Are you looking for something to blame the lack of success with this girl on? 'Cause if you really base that much on driving and car cleanliness/maintenance habits, you're giving yourself a VERY small pool to pick from. Despite the stereotype that women can't drive, most guys really aren't good drivers either, despite how much we like to claim we are. The population of "good drivers" of either sex is really quite small.

I hope you're not talking about a Cayenne, because while it is quite the serious sporting SUV, it's still a soccer mom car. Just a big expensive one. A Cayenne turbo, otoh, is not, as most won't pay the premium if they're just looking for image.

Station wagon? (There are some damn nice ones these days, but rear-facing seats are becoming rare...) Limousine? (I've heard of large families who buy used limos)

Or you could just do what everyone else does and buy a 3 row SUV or crossover, but those are no better than a minivan IMO.

We'll figure out something.

Given that we hope to settle somewhere out west in the boonies...an SUV would not only be appropriate, but expected. He actually wants nine kids. I told him I'm fine with that, but he only has five pregnancies with which to work, so he better score some multiples in there somewhere.

But I like driving my little sedan.

It's a bridge we won't get to for a while, so no need to worry about logistics now.

Can you beat our "worst driver" winner? She totaled her car 3 times...in the third accident she became airborne, sailed over/through the fence of a car dealership and landed on top of a brand new Volvo, totaling it as well as her car. Nice girl though...
