if i buy a $1.60 cup of coffee, i like to give the cashier a $20, a $5 and whatever change i happen to have in my pocketi consider myself to be doing them a great service

improving their math skills for when they find a real job?
1/28/2009 10:56:32 AM
don't they just slide the 20 back to you?
1/28/2009 10:57:23 AM
i'll give an extra dollar or two if it means i get a larger bill back than a $1 and try to get rid of all change in my pocket - never been a big fan of it
1/28/2009 10:57:50 AM
ahh, so i see you're a fan of a blank stare]
1/28/2009 10:58:02 AM
haha..i've done this beforealthough it was admittedly on accident

How does it improve their math skills when they just punch in the amount you gave them into the register and they hand you back whatever amount the register says to hand back?Improving their number entering endurance... maybe.EDIT: Oh, the math skills come into play when they have to count up all the money that you gave them so they can enter it in. My bad.[Edited on January 28, 2009 at 11:05 AM. Reason : -]

cash registers musta changed. cause i only recall it being something that you say they gave you cash, and you gotta do the math on your own.

they should equip all cashiers with one
1/28/2009 11:12:10 AM
This is when you should pull the ol'"I give you a 20 and a 5, now you give me 2 tens and 4 ones and here's 75 cents and a ten, now you give me a 20 and my coffee."

i cashiered some and whenever people would do something dumb like this, i immediately assumed they were a flim-flammer and paid close attention.

When I was a cashier, if someone did this I'd just give them the 20 back, or ask if they want me to break it for them. Not too hard. But how are you doing them a great service, exactly? If there's one bill a cashier NEVER needs more of, it's the 20.Counting back change should also be one of the easiest things in the world if anyone actually had basic math skills...

^^ flim-flammer!?!?triple word score holmes

that's what we all called those people who come in and start trying to confuse you and get more back than they should. they'd do weird stuff like stop you in the middle of counting out their change and try to get change for a 20 and other methods i didn't even understand. they confuse you to where you gave them an extra 5 or 10 or something. they were fast talking and would get cashiers who weren't alert. i would always just stop them before it even got started and tell them to wait until i was done and then i would break their 20. it was obvious because when i did it they'd get mad and not even want me to break the 20. probably so they could go try it at the next store.[Edited on January 28, 2009 at 11:50 AM. Reason : i thought all cashiers used that terms]

I would have given you back as many pennies, dimes, nickels, etc. before moving on to the folding money. Also I would have take lots of time to do it.
