and it completely fucked you over on taxes.

this is the first year i've ever had to pay anything. $65 federal, $145 state. it would have been $167 state, but north carolina gives volunteer fire/ems workers a WHOLE WHOPPING $250 deduction, haha.

totally not fair. i pay for all my shit.

yeah, i think i've basically guilt-tripped my dad into at least giving me part of his refund... considering i contributed to it.

And you really pay for everything?

Your minivan? Your apartment? Your tuition? All the stupid shit you always buy and post about?

Really?

My parents did this last year.

I told them they better plan on filing an amendment, or working something out, because I wasn't gonna get fucked over for it. They sure as hell don't have any grounds to claim me as a dependent, and haven't for a couple years.
I think we ended up doing a 60/40 split on the difference.

I didn't file as independent until after I graduated (22), even though I have been financially independent since I was 18.

That's pretty normal. Most states allow parents to claim children as dependent up to 23-25.

I was covered under their medical insurance umbrella until I graduated, and my car insurance was massively discounted as well.

post.

but they still pay for my secondary insurance and truck insurance. not to mention, having a dad that's willing to loan money and go in with me to buy a boat is worth being claimed as a dependent.
