are you serious?

are you that ignorant of cars that you can't pass a simple safety inspection?

11 year old car would be a 98 model. it has to pass much more than "simple safety inspection"

I have a 93 Camry that could no way in hell have passed another inspection w/o $1000+ in repairs

fortunately I just moved to a state that doesn't require inspections

SOB, I admit to being a dumbass. Whoops!

Yeah OBD II isn't fun, but you can check on things before you even go in with a quick trip to autozone.

PASS!

But I did need to get a new battery, not to mention the laundry list of "recommendations" that he had for me.

Electronic Inspection Tags FTL.

I sense some big brother shit happening by Nov. 09.

so how do they determine if your battery passes inspection? i don't doubt it, i've just never heard of that.

ran a test on it (that I watched). I hadn't replaced it in about 4 years and I knew before hand that the car wasn't getting enough juice when it started.

They didn't MAKE me get one, but he said it was at it's lowest point of power.

i went to jiffy lube to get my car inspected a couple months ago and they told me in order to pass i needed to come back with two new tires and new wipers. left there and went straight to a tire shop, dropped a little over $200 and got it all fixed. went back the next day and they looked up my record, told me i had already been passed, and then wouldn't let me leave the lot until they fixed my broken tail light

fuckers

Yeah, this is why I just get it inspected at the dealership. It costs like $3 more than jiffy rape (base cost) but you'll save $monkeysex because they won't nickel and dime your ass by making up a bunch of bullshit repairs.

Most of the time they're just naming little maintenance things that you probably aren't thinking about that they could probably charge you for. Shit you don't necessarily need to do, ya know. Things like your cabin air filter, or maybe getting your coolant system flushed (which you might do every few years at most), or maybe they'll say your car's running rough and you need to have them run fuel injector cleaner through it (which costs $130 and consists of them slow dripping a can of STP fuel injector cleaner into your throttle body for about 15 minutes).

Really, just don't take your car to any place with "Jiffy" or "Quick" in the name. Avoid the fast lube places cause they're all out to screw you unless you personally know the people that work there.

I just went to try and get my truck inspected. It's a 1993 f50 that I use as a work truck. The rearview mirror fell off so a few months ago so he stopped me right there. I know that's an easy fix.

But I have a cracked rear break light. Light works, it's just the plastic. Do I need to replace that or can I seal it up somehow?

My car is 12 years old and passed with flying colors.
You can only blame the age of the car for so much

^^ I've had my car with a cracked rear left taillight (pretty obvious too) for the entire time I've owned it. I think I've had it for four years, inspected it four times, and never once did they bother me about it. It depends on whether there's a hole in it or if it's just cracked, I think. Also depends on whether the inspector is an asshole.

well, a 97 model has to pass OBD II, and the older it is the more likely it has thrown a dumb emissions code or something

older than 97 and it's easier to get it to pass
