i admit, a high percentage of engineers are socially awkward nerds, but i think the percentage of nerds in mechanical engr is significantly lower

i always get pissed when i hear two engineering students nerding out on the bus or something. i wanna punch them and tell them they're the reason for the stereotype.

CHE is one of the worst. right below computer and electrical

[Edited on February 1, 2009 at 7:29 PM. Reason : ME, CE, and construction are least nerdy]

Yeah, I've met some pretty stand up engineers in CHE and AE, but the ratio of is definitely off.

I beg to differ. I'd put it above computer at least , dunno many electrical engineers.

Actually, I'd put it above Electrical too. I forgot about this Jew-fro creep I met through a friend.

more nerds in CHE than computer?

i think you're skewed because you're around other CHEs so much. computer is like 90% dweebs.

[Edited on February 1, 2009 at 7:33 PM. Reason : ^^exactly, a lot of car guys and grease monkeys in there]

im EE

but every job ive had, ive tended to relate to and hang out with the ME's more than EE's.

because it's true: EE's tend to be nerdy and have the personality of wet noodles.

and they typically dont like to binge drink.

I have a friend who's really into horses, and watching movies with her I finally realize what it's like to watch movies with me. She's always talking about how it's the wrong type of horse, or saddle, or how the actor obviously doesn't know what he's doing.

my gf loves her engineer. she thinks it's sexy that she can ask me how all kinds of stuff works and i can tell her the answer. for her, smart=sexy, i guess.

[Edited on February 1, 2009 at 7:40 PM. Reason : ^yeah, i often end up in a long explanation that confuses her ]

my dad's a career jet mechanic, from the USAF on through civilian aviation.

i could NOT watch any freakin TV show or Movie as a kid with him, if it had ANYTHING about airplanes.

he would critique every flaw or inaccuracy.

OMG YES!

CSC.... they are the absolute worst.

for 2 months, when i was between EE jobs, i contracted at Microsoft ... it was kind of a secret goal of mine to work there but i quickly realized I could and never would want to work there for real.

that place is so geeked out. everyone there is a member of one or more of the following three (3) groups:

-- Sci-Fi Geeks
-- Dungeons and Dragons Nerds
-- Smelly Sock Dorks.

i personally don't know any, but those jobs are technicians.

you go to some tech school for a year or two to learn that.

they're "engineers" in the same sense that the guys who drive train locomotives are "engineers"

i.e., they don't do any "engineering"

they just drive shit.

slight improvement over sanitation engineers...

btw, I have no trouble nerding out on the bus and then picking up chicks in bars... (Ok, I'm lying)

but EE binge drinking ftw

when my wife first started as a freshman at NCSU, she thought engineering students learned to drive trains.

my wife is smart about a lot of things.

but anything remotely electrical or mechanical is not in the group of things she's especially smart about.

i never said they were stupid. they are equally as nerdy, only in a bookworm, non engineering sort of way.
