Are there any companies that will create castings if I generate a mold or a ceramic/lost foam kind of form? 2/2/2009 11:54:56 AM |

two years ago I could have done this stuff for you, but alas, NCSU can never keep the good equipment. 2/2/2009 3:13:25 PM |

TED shop? One thing that I noticed about castings in there...definitely more porous than I would like to see. I too have cast metal in there.
I guess I could make my own furnace and do my own shit, but I thought it would be lovely to NOT have to go through all that jazz. 2/2/2009 4:20:09 PM |

I've thought about making a forge before. I've certainly got enough scrap aluminum sitting around.
What was the name of that "rent a tech shop" place in durham? I think I remember reading they had a laser cutter, don't know about casting tools. Apparently they're a big deal, only like one in RTP and another in Silicon Valley. 2/2/2009 5:05:39 PM |

^^^that's because they used crappy pot metal. old pistons mostly. i did a little side project in there and brought in my own PURE aluminum and it came out just fine.
that said, i'll bet hamilton's machine might do it.

Hell, they don't even have a real home yet, do they? Actually, it's supposed to be close to where I live. BONUS 2/7/2009 11:39:27 AM |

They have a building now, but are still getting 'charter members' as well as getting folks to loan them money for a lifetime membership and a 10% interest per year payoff while they pay it back. Trying to raise money to buy all the tech goodies that they have on the wishlist. 2/7/2009 6:35:04 PM |

If I had 25 grand extra money laying around, I'd be all over investing in this place. I've inquired about charter membership availability. I'm excited about this! 2/8/2009 1:38:33 AM |
