well there are still people w/o private profiles. mine is private and it isn't my fault. i don't want to not get hired at a job because someone reads my online profile that has a quote they disagree with or a picture of me holding a beer. but then i think about it and sometimes make it public because i get mad and i'm like, i wouldn't want to work at a job where people would be mad about having fun on the weekends anyway. but then i ultimately go back to private because i get scared and feel inapprop.

The best thing to do is to be yourself. There is nothing more attractive to an employeer than someone that doesn't care what you think and is confident enough in themselves to let the world see it. Granted, I'm not advocating that you put up nudes, keep it PC, but making your profile private defeats the entire purpose of Facebook. You are missing out on huge opportunities to network with people by remaining private. If there is anything on your profile that you are ashamed of revealing, maybe you should re-think some things in your life.

^^hahaha yea i mean i wouldn't put up anything bad. but most of the time a camera is around its when i'm with my friends, so usually on the weekends, vacays, weddings, etc. but i know that some people seriously make their interns just look at the myspace/facebook profiles of prospective hires. and that is just lame. but yea, i wouldn't want to work for a place like that anyway i guess. i was thinking about it today haha. i need to go through all of my pictures and untag the ones i think might be a little too extreme, then i guess i can make mine public again.

edit: no there's nothing revealing or anything, its just that i've heard horror stories about like firms making summer interns stalk prospective hires and taking note of things like party pictures, political affiliation, etc etc. and again, when i really think about it, if they don't like me, i probably wouldn't like working there anyway.

i dont know if mine is private or not... i guess i should know that since i put my cell number up there...

but i'd be WAY more worried about potential business people finding out about "jackleg" than seeing my facebook.

i guess that has to do with lots of my family being on facebook, so i can't go tooooo over the edge with what i put on there. i hardly even use mild profanity. there are a couple of pictures of me in a bar i think, holding a beer.. but they're years old and its a bar and not a keg party so it just doesnt seem bad to me

you know, me and a coulple friends having a beer at a civilized bar.. not like me and 200 people doing keg stands. i think thats a safe picture. letsee if i can find one offhand

now im wondering how it looks to outsiders. and if they can even see it.

I think the point of facebook is what it has always been.

The best way to find out if your profile is private or not is to throw your full name into a google search. When I put my name into google, my facebook page is the first hit. When I mark it private, it won't come up.
