into a kegerator?

I went to go talk to a guy about a job, whose business is near by, and when he took me through his shop, I saw two old school refrigerators. I mentioned how much i liked them and he told me that i could have them. He said one he thinks works and one doesnt.

From the looks of it, the seem in good condition cosmetically. I was thinking of making them all prom queen like and turning them into kegorators with a kit....sell...profit.

Wasnt sure how hard it was to do or if anyone has any tips.

unless you plan on replacing everything mechanical/electronic in there, why would anyone buy this from you/why would you waste your time? those refrigerators aren't going to last too much longer if they are that old

they aren't that hard to convert if you can follow instructions.

Also, make sure the fridge is big enough inside to fit a keg and CO2 tank, otherwise you are gonna be wasting a perfectly good fridge.

^You have no clue how hardcore that type of fridge is. My grandmother has one that is about 60 years old that on its medium setting will still freeze water bottles. Those things are awesome aside from how much electricity they eat up.

i was also thinking of just getting them, taking all the mechanical/electrical shit out and making it into an armoire single door deal

I've done it and it is easy as shit, especially if you already have the fridge. Literally 30 minutes of work. You pretty much just need to drill 1 hole. Just buy a kegerator kit online for about $150 and get it done.

Here's a good spot. With the CO2 tank, you are looking at about $150.

you can put the co2 tank on the outside if you drill another hole in the side for the hose.

Yeah, pretty much thought it would be as far as hooking it all up, but what i'm a little more interested in is restoring that frige...thinking of trying to give it a polished look (dunno if this can be done since i dont know the material...figured it was sheet steel)...get that paint off...make/change the hardware and what not

When I built my kegerator I found a full sized fridge on Craigslist for like $75. It was only like a year old. It was sweet because it had the freezer on top so we could keep our pint glasses and mugs in there and always have them frosted.

chilling compressed liquid gas seems like a good way to reduce the vapor pressure and increase the tendency of the fittings to freeze
