haha, this thread right here shows what's normal/common/accepted, and what is not, and how traditions and cultures spread.african-americans started using muslim/arab names* for their children some time ago, i don't know, 20(?) years ago, such as aisha, fatima, raheem, bilal, kareem, etc. now apparently, they are accepted as normal african-american names, when in fact they are not. so if an african-american sees a white person with any of those names, it seems weird to him/her. but of course, when a muslim/arab comes to the US, and sees african-american christians with muslim/arab names, that's even weirder to him/her than it is for an african-american to see a white person with those names.* because of the whole 'let's go back to our african roots' thing. yeah right.[Edited on February 3, 2009 at 9:21 PM.
