My co-workers and I were just talking about all the protestors, particularly the pro-lifers, and the religious fanatics that they saw on their college campuses. I remember there was a group that came out to the brickyard one time and they had a giant sign that said "You are all going to hell!" Well a lot of people didn't take to kindly to that. In fact one good ol' boy type went off and pulled his pants down in front of them and told them to kiss his ass. These people showed up at that weeks football game too. It was embarrassing to explain to the visiting fans that they were lunatics that weren't associated with the school whatsoever. Then there was always Gary The Brickyard Preacher who incited a ton of people and the infamous "partyboy" incident.

I hated how the pro-lifers would put up all the signs of aborted fetuses in the brickyard, and they'd have warning signs saying don't pass through if you don't want to see graphic images. Yeah let's put up this display where at least 80% of the student population on campus that day has to walk through. I'm not walking some long way around just to get to class. I'm not phased by those images, but I don't think they need to try and shock people into joining their side. I saw these same people in Charlotte standing on corners around CMC-University and they had their little kids holding up those signs.

Have there been any crazy protestors and religious fanatics on campus this year, and if so have their been any funny exchanges with the students? Is Gary and the guy that stands close to Bostian Hall and just reads from a book still there?

I haven't seen anyone...but then again, I'm rarely never in the brickyard this semester.

Me either.
In fact, it makes me lose what little respect I have for the anti-choice crowd.
What are they thinking? That we don't know what a fetus looks like?

^ Yeah, it seems like showing them in the Brickyard where it's mainly CALS people anyway wouldn't get as much shock effect as maybe the Courtyard of the Carolinas would

There was Gary, the guy with the weird thumb that read from the book, and another guy that talked to the guy with the weird thumb that used to be a Lutheran but is "non denominational" now.

I liked the one with the weird thumb, cause he totally pwned some Mormons one day in the brickyard.

The guy with the thumb who read scripture under the tree is named Jonathon. A buddy wrote a paper for psychology on him freshman year, and I've seen the guy everywhere since. Haven't seen him on campus lately, seeing as I dont spend much time there, but I do see him around clark/cameron village about once a week.

Pro-Lifers are the biggest hypocrites. Likely they are the people that are the biggest critics of welfare spending and labeling the poor as lazy/underachievers. Yet they are passionate in their crusade against abortion which has been revolutionary in reducing teen mothers, welfare receiving single moms, etc.

Fuck those religious faggots

do you hate that you're confronted with the image or that the abortions take place?

because being ok with the abortion yet not wanting to see the image sounds despicable to me.

Read a little farther and you'd have seen this:

That's why I don't like them putting up all those images.

That's Jonathan. He pisses me off more than the rest. At least Gary tells you what he thinks straight out, he's a very upfront person and that can be appreciated.

I have had many conversations with Jonathan, and he is a two-faced son of a bitch. When he's around protestants, he's protestant. When he's around Catholics, he's Catholic, and around Jews he pulls out the Jews for Jesus crap. He talks shit about non-Christians when there's only "true believers" around and is just plain annoying.

He signed up for a one-hour gym class just so he could be considered a "student" and uses his right as a student to come to SG meetings and give his 2 cents.

He doesn't have a beard anymore.

He grew it out once, I think to look more Jewish, but instead he looked like a homeless bum. You could tell when he had just eaten, it was disgusting.

He holds midnight prayer meetings at the belltower too.

Why? I'm OK with childbirth, but I don't want to see images of it. I'm OK with people getting colonics, but I don't want to see images of it. I'm OK with a lot of things that I don't want to see. I'm sorry, but your accusations of being despicable make absolutely no sense.

Are you reading it as "Yet they are passionate in their crusade against abortion. Their crusade against abortion has been revolutionary in reducing teen mothers, welfare receiving single moms, etc.", or "Yet they are passionate in their crusade against abortion. Abortion has been revolutionary in reducing teen mothers, welfare receiving single moms, etc."??

Clearly the later was intended, so yes, it was poorly written.

(Also, when you teach middle school, please encourage the use of more descriptive adjectives than "retarded". When you described that post as retarded, it was hard to tell if you were taking issue with the grammar or the intended message. OK? Thanks.)

I understand that euthanization of animals at the animal shelter is a sad yet inescapable fact of life since so many pet owners won't nueter/spade their pet. This does not mean i want to see pictures of dead lassie and dead cats blown up and displayed on a 20 foot by 40 foot poster.

I approved of military action in Afghanistan. This does not mean i want to see the MOST Gruesome and Gory combat photos anti-war protesters can find of charred bodies, decapitated people, arms blown off with blooding spurting out, or an old man walking the streets with his entrails hanging out; that is unless i choose to watch a documentary on the subject or visit....

This is even forgetting the fact that the Anti-Choice crowd takes pictures and images of partial birth abortion (which are now illegal) and i'd say most abortions occur really early before the embryo really develops human form. To be more realistic they should put up an image of a zygote that resembles a spherical clump of cells followed by a woman having a period.
