My mom makes ceramic tile mosiacs, typically for family and friends but occasionally for profit. Shes very good at it, she made this for me for Christmas, and she is thinking about "mass producing" but she's not sure if she could get enough out of them to make it worth it. So, if you like it, let me know how much you think you'd pay for it. The table dimensions can be modified if needed, mine is pretty high because my bed is on risers. If your really interested, let me know and I can notify you if/when she starts producing them. (Note: additional school logos can be done, she made a Yosef from ASU table for my friend)[Edited on February 4, 2009 at 1:35 PM. Reason : fxd]

Red x's are free, d00d. But for real, the actual top doesn't look bad. The rest of the table looks cheap as hell.\/ haha[Edited on February 4, 2009 at 1:35 PM. Reason : ]

Its a bad picture of the table, its very sturdy and looks really good, just photographed poorly.
2/4/2009 1:36:57 PM
you can buy those pre-made already, she should see how much they cost. they come basically as a mat that you set down then grout in.
2/4/2009 1:38:41 PM
i'd throw 10 down for it if i were still in school
2/4/2009 1:39:11 PM
freshman idiots who want everything in their room to be ncsu related will want itthat being said, i'd be disappointed to get this as a gift. even if i wasn't expecting a gift from the giver.and if you're going to try and pimp your mom's wares, at least get the coat hanger out of it. [Edited on February 4, 2009 at 1:43 PM. Reason : that sounds worse than i meant it]

tiles look nice, pic looks like ass, table looks gay. Tell your mom to find a new nightstand to place the tiles on. If you are going to go with red on black, get a piece of furniture that uses a darker stain, like cherry or something darker. Oh, and I'd personally like night stands with a drawer. Otherwise, $10 max.
2/4/2009 1:45:24 PM
you mom would have to pay me to take it
2/4/2009 2:11:06 PM
i could go for one if it was a beer pong tablein fact, this may have inspired me

I would sit bareass on it while I watched our games so I could feel one with the team
2/4/2009 2:22:10 PM
miter the joints and paint it white or black and it'd be pretty cool, you could make a neat coffee table like thati have no idea what anything costs so i'm not going to even venture a guess
2/4/2009 2:27:49 PM
That is a really neat idea, and I'm not really an NCSU fan I'd say a $40-$60 range on it and she could easily set up an Etsy store and sell them. How long did it take her to make that? I've been thinking about doing something similar once I move.
2/4/2009 2:47:31 PM
you could easily got 40-50 bucks a piece for those.i would suggest using a darker wood stain or just paint the entire table blackyou should also tell her to think about doing these in plant stands or patio tables as well.a small patio table like this in white would be pretty nicethe table looks pretty good to me

I'd think most students would make something similar themselves, even if it was inferior. You might be surprised how many people would purchase something like that for their children on their birthdays, Christmas, or even just as a "back to school" housewarming gift though. I'd say if you listed them at $60-$80 you might find people who see that as something a little different and still at a reasonable price for a gift.I wish your mom the best of luck with them, but since that is a trademarked logo she better try to stay under the radar. Selling them hand-to-hand on Craigslist is probably a safe bet, but I wouldn't go so far as to set up a website or anything.

My first thought was also 'old logo'. But the tile work looks good.[Edited on February 4, 2009 at 2:58 PM. Reason : .]

1. change to black or white paint on wood2....3....4. profit!
2/4/2009 3:05:11 PM
with a darker stain or in black - if it was also a bit lower and perhaps longer and wider i'd buy one for my office if it was $50 or less probably ]]
2/4/2009 3:09:16 PM
out of curiosity (I thought this might be related to the thread)... would you need to be careful producing and selling these tables insofar as copyright violations are concerned (with the logo)? Or will noone care?
2/4/2009 3:18:02 PM
2/4/2009 3:34:37 PM
that's a pretty high grout-to-tile ratio she's got going on there.
2/4/2009 3:40:40 PM
yeah, the black tiles have a little too much grout for my likings.

if you can dovetail the table top instead of using pegs, then move the leg braces on the inside of the legs instead of outside, it would look much better
2/4/2009 9:31:55 PM
^ I was going to say almost that exact same thing

Personally, I like the color of the wood versus painting it, it might look nicer a little darker though. But one could easily paint it, or rather she could paint it prior to selling it per the customers wishes. I didn't even think about the whole licensing bullshit...thanks for bringing that up. Best I can remember, the mosiac itself took about 8-10 hours actual work , not counting grout drying time and that kinda stuff. Our friend made the table, I'm not sure how much longer he took doing that. People seem to dislike the table, would a better idea be to make the mosiac itself to fit in a table that somebody might already have? Also, she could probably do Mr. Wuf rather than the (apparently outdated) block S. Anyway, thank ya'll for your input, and EMCE, if she does start producing them I'll let you know.
