I need to pick up about 500ft of Cat5e rated for in-wall use by Saturday.
Does anyone know the best place/price for this? 2/5/2009 8:57:10 AM |

Monoprice usually has some pretty cheap cable. You might have to pay for shipping to get it here by Sat. but it might well be worth it. 2/5/2009 9:13:03 AM |

monoprice sells 1000ft spools for $50, which is about the cheapest you're going to find. You could go to lowes and grab a 500ft spool for the same price. 2/5/2009 9:54:05 AM |

yeah, you're not gonna find anything lower than monoprice.
lowes/HD are overpriced, but if you need cable NOW, it's pretty much your only option around here unless somewhere like intrex or TD carries it.
also, if you're doing in-wall, go ahead and run cat6 while you're at it instead of 5e. it's only like $30 more, and you'll thank yourself later.

^I was wondering why they wouldn't want to do that. Unless maybe price is a problem. I was planning on running 6 myself whenever I get around to running cable. 2/5/2009 12:23:16 PM |

Well - I am installing a Russound ABUS system in my new house and it calls for Cat5e. http://www.russound.com/abus.htm
Any reason why Cat6 would not work that you know of? 2/5/2009 12:52:31 PM |

You used to be able to get a box of 1000ft cat5e at lowe's for $60 but I think now its higher
you could get it from grainger if you know someone with an account there 2/5/2009 1:01:37 PM |

graybar and grainger will be better than lowe's or home depot.
if you are in greensboro, fayetteville, or wilmington you can also try PC Warehouse and see if they'll let you setup a temporary account 2/5/2009 8:14:43 PM |

I got 500ft of CAT6 for $85 at Home Depot - that was the cost of CAT5e from Monoprice shipped.
Granted its half the cable but I have no need for teh 1000ft - Im happy. 2/7/2009 7:07:56 PM |
