I have a laptop in mind that has a blu-ray rom drive on it. My question is regarding the monitor.

Standard
HD Widescreen 16.0 inch WLED LCD (1366x768)

will this be fine for casual movie watching? It's not going to be my main blu-ray player, but i'll still watch occassionally and will watch streaming HD shows as well from time to time. The upgrade is to the RGBLED 1920x1080 monitor, but it throws the computer cost over budget.

is there really a difference between (1366x768) vs. (1920x1080) on a 16" screen?

If you don't have a 1900x1200 screen you won't be getting blu ray resolution...itll just be like a toned up DVD

if you go for the blu ray, go for the 1900x1200

hmm, i guess they offer the blu-ray rom in case you have your laptop connected to an external monitor via HDMI?

This makes no sense whatsoever. You're going to put a $250 add-on in a laptop where the right screen puts you over budget, when in the other thread you say you'll almost never be moving this machine...so basically you'll be too lazy to go downstairs to watch a blu-ray movie on a real setup.

Your priorities are mixed up son.

hahaha, i could see your confusi0n. I would definitely watch a blu-ray on my home theatre setup 100% of the time i was at home. Really the only time i'd watch an actual blu-ray is on the off chance that i am travelling (flight, road, trip, beach etc). I am/was mainly just curious as to why they would offer a blu-ray rom on a laptop without a full 1080 monitor. and if i were to watch on said default monitor, 720, would there be any loss in quality.

I personally would buy a laptop with a higher resolution monitor, but not at all for the movie watching. You aren't going to be able to tell the difference between a 720p and a 1080p video on a 16" screen unless you're literally a couple inches from the screen. If your only interest in the 1080p screen is for blu-ray than it's a waste of money.

Higher pixel density means you'll be able to 'fit' more on the screen. You can play with font sizes, DPI settings and shit, but it's not going to be as sharp as on a higher resolution screen.
