Is anyone else getting really shitty RR service (worse than normal) this morning over near Kaplan?

I have turbo and have run several speed tests and my d/l speeds are barely getting about 2000kbps.

rebooted the modem, seemingly no help.

same here over on brent. Although it seems to slow down really bad from about 4pm to about 11pm every weekday so I guess its just higher demand for bandwidth

Yep, the rent/kaplan area really sucks balls on TWC. It has been spotty since last summer.

The best thing you can do is to call, complain, and schedule someone to come out. Customer support is very costly for them. Figure paying the dude, equipment, service, and everyone involved in customer service logistics, I would figure it costs our local monopoly at least $100 per visit. For you, it's free. Keep calling. Keep complaining. Keep scheduling visits. I wouldn't expect anything to change unless you make it cost more to have overloaded customer service than it does to have decent bandwidth.

While I admire your persistence, good luck with that logic

But yeah, I had really shitty service a couple months ago, called about ten times to complain and service got better for a little while. I don't know if TW actually fixed something or if less people around here were using, but it's been decent.

^^At least it makes me feel better!!

But really, certain business models under certain conditions can actually lose money on a customer. AT&T iPhone users who abuse unlimited bandwidth by enabling tethering to a laptop, for example. Or credit card holders who pay off the balance every month and never shop at small businesses that often pay high fees for credit transactions (as opposed to somewhere like Wal-Mart). Sometimes mechanisms are put in place to keep this from happening, like Netflix's throttling of subscribers who go through dozens of DVDs a month while giving fast turn-around time to subscribers who only watch a few movies a month.

TimeWarner can lose money on a customer if they have to send out a repairman multiple times a month. They also lose money on people who leave their BitTorrents up all the time, because they oversell their bandwidth and rely on most of their subscribers using only a fraction of their capacity. Since they're a telecom, they're required by law to give me service as long as I have good credit and pay my bill.

Our connection has been spotty the last couple of weeks. We get Turbo, and now and then it hits really good speeds, but half the time I play a game online I start lagging. We're over close to RBC/CF. Not sure what the deal is.

Its called TWC sucks.

But ya, call and complain and get someone off their ass to look at it. They dont like that and they want you to stop calling, so someone will come out. Just hope he/she is competent. Complain enough they might throw some credits or upgrades your way.

I called and complained and they came out and replaced all my connections with higher quality hardware, removed a couple of splitters in the box outside that weren't necessary anymore and overall boosted the signal strength a good bit, my roadrunner has been significantly faster ever since
