2008 was the last year for the S2000. There is no 2009 model. Maybe there would have been a carryover one, but with the economy as it and given they only sold about 2400 last year they gave it the axe.

And not a single fucking mainstream car magazine mentioned it :middle-finger:

So a moment of silence for a roadster that brought great performance value to a lot of fans.

also...does this mean mine will go up in value?

i read something a few months ago about 2009 being the last year. sucks they pulled the plug early. i'll bet any remaining ones on dealer lots will bring some extra $$.

assuming they don't bring it back in a couple of years or something, they will probably have some added value some day. i'd say it will be many many years down the road though, and at first it's only going to be the very well kept/preserved ones. now, it should hold it's resale better immediately. it'll still be a depreciating asset though, just slower. it's not going to grow in value for a long time to come, and who knows how long it could take or if it ever would surpass msrp.

Overpriced, underpowered.

Those straight body panels show every little pebble ding, so I doubt they age well. Bouncing off 9000 revs on a regular basis can't do the engines any favors, either.

^^will do. The Cary AutoPark dealership had 2 new ones last month. When I went back last weekend to have something fixed one of them was still there (bland silver color, good luck selling that!)

^overpriced and underpowered huh?

Hmmm, lets take a look at the competition:

350Z - pretty much dead equal performance for a little more money, but more/nicer features (or 350Z convertible not even close)
Z3 then Z4 - better performance in every way, considerably cheaper
Boxster - superior performance until the 2008 redesign, pricewise never close
SLK - haha, sure

It doesn't really have any other competition

^ahh, well the Miata really isn't competition But then you made me think Solstice/Sky and then made me think of their turbo versions which actually are competition. I'd say they undercut the S2000 by 4-5,000 new and their performance is quite comparable. However their interiors are absolute crap and lack the refinement of the Honda.

Anyway, we all know this is one of the few pure sports cars out there so its disappointing even though we've seen the writing on the wall forever.

I wouldn't really lop a 350z and s2000 together unless we're talking only the base model 350z.

^^why not? In every comparison the Nismo 350Z and S2000 CR were basically identical. And those were be the "top performing" package of each model.

there are not many good roadsters. the s2000 is most certainly underpowered but sadly isn't much slower in the scheme of its competitors.

I'm glad they didn't introduce a new body style . TKE-TEG get the SOT roots blower for yours .

from what i heard, they are bringing a larger displacement one to market. to do that, they needed to get rid of the old model.

I'm surprised it lasted this long. I remember reading rumors of its death a couple years ago. And somebody sent me a link to an s3000 concept of some sort, but who knows if it will ever happen.

I don't have to imagine--I daily drove it for 2 years.

It's fairly strong, but definitely not eyeball-flattening...just feels like an S2000 with the power it needed all along.

I mean, it's a fun car in stock form, but it's merely adequate in terms of power (for a sports car).

S2000 is definitely not underpowered. For 2700-2800lb it packed quite a bit of power, actually same power and straight line performance as E36 M3. The real problem is that a lot of people are used to low end torque of consumer-oriented vehicles.

E46 M3 has the same power band and you can argue that to an outsider, Grand Prix GT will appear faster. Driver either S2000 or E46 in the power band that it is supposed to be driven and it will perform.

E46 M3 has somewhat more grunt than the S2000 does at lower revs, but yeah, pretty much...they both are made to work in the upper third of the tach. you have to wring an S2000's neck to make it perform. Even then, I agree that it certainly isn't underpowered, but by sports car standards, it is only adequate.

^^ yeah (other than the Vortech kit, and some would argue that)...but it was the best setup available at the time. No doubt that it has been eclipsed by a solid margin these days.

SOT BLOWER

comptech

Come on TKE....Pull the trigger. 200ft/lbs at 3000 rpm.

Man looking at that comptech plot the F20C 2L was really anemic.

^Yeah back then the comptech and vortech were pretty much it.

^ you are right in that it's a better blower than the Comptech, but to be fair, those graphs aren't exactly apples to apples, being different cars, different days, and most of all, different dynos. I can tell you right off the bat that the graphs you show for the Comptech car read low across the board (compared to common Dynojet #s that people commonly use as the standard), for both stock and supercharged configurations.

^^How exactly will/would that void my warranty?

That and a lack of money are holding me back. The money issue will resolve itself in the short term, but the warranty goes to 100k.

Yeah. They do seem low.

The comptech unit would still be about 50-60 ft/lbs and whp behind throughout pretty much everything except 9000 rpm.

It would be night and day. You cant really fault me for posting the image comptech made to advertise their kit. You dont have to defend it. It is the worst FI kit for the car. Its still a HUGE improvement over NA dont get me wrong.

haha, that's probably about where you finish letting the clutch out on an S2000, though, and a stock one doesn't even make that much torque at the PEAK.

A part of me says screw the M3 idea and build an S2000, even nastier than the last one...but i know the smart thing is not to do that. there aren't many good roads in coastal NC, and I just won't be able to do enough track days to justify it. plus, i have a lot of interstate trips ahead of me to pick up my daughter.

[Edited on February 10, 2009 at 1:32 PM. Reason : torque is all but meaningless in a sports car, though]

nah, if i went to the trouble of an engine swap, i'd just go the LSx route. I definitely wouldn't shoehorn that toyota in there...too heavy and too long.

ZING!

Seriously though Quinn, how much does that kit sell for? And what'd the charge be to get it installed. Unfortunately this wouldn't be something I'd do anytime soon. I've got some nasty CC debt that I'm paying off at a monthly rate that's more than my car payment

Well i think its 4500$ pre EMS. Figure another grand for the AEM EMS ( or more). Not many people run the SOT blower.

Duke I don't think you can fit a V in a S2000. Remember where the shock towers are? You can barely squeeze a turbo between the I4 exhaust and shock tower.

You can put an LS1 in a 1st gen Miata, or a BMW z3. I'm pretty sure it'll go in an S2000.
