for the better part of the past month there has been a star/planet object just below and off to the side of the moon. what is it? I was told Venus, but I will rely on the expertise of TWW just to be safe.

Venus, duh. Earlier this fall, you also saw another planet near it, which was jupiter, altho it wasn't as bright as venus. Around New Years, right after sunset, you could also see Mercury near the horizon and near Jupiter, Venus, and the Moon. It was pretty awesome
