1) Is there a technical term for like that shit when a cyclical thing is going so fast that you start to see it going backwards because of the refresh rate of your vision2) Why is the number e so prevalent in our scientific studies is it a fundamental flaw in our number system or something more complex? This has been a big business presentation.[Edited on February 6, 2009 at 10:59 PM. I call #1 the "A-Team wheel camera problem"
2/6/2009 11:03:32 PM
man, i have thought about #1 so many times, but i never bothered to research it
2/6/2009 11:03:56 PM
#2 is much more perplexing to me. Okay i can accept pi and the golden number, but why do so many things have that exponential/logrithmic feel with a base of 2.78blahblahblah or whatever it is. It seems in nature many plants use ratios that approximate e to get certain types of overlaying symmetry. For Example, certain flowers use it to overlap petals to get maximum sunlight. Shit bothers me.I'm Big Business and i approved this message.

Answer to #1. Temporal Aliasing. Basically, aliasing changes the apparent frequency of rotation. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aliasing & http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wagon-wheel_effect

stillfuschia is a fucking mystery from math and science...
2/6/2009 11:10:02 PM
yeah i know theres that 0=1+e^(pi*i) equation or whatever that has all the important constants and mathematical operations and nothing else. can't remember how it was derived or what it means thoughI'm Big Business and i approved this message.

I personally like to get drunk and wonder what the square root of -1, the ratio of circumference/diameter of a circle, and e have to do with each other, and how the hell Euler figured it out.
2/6/2009 11:11:18 PM
you people
2/6/2009 11:11:25 PM
Euler thats his name. Yeah i often wonder like wtf was he smoking to come up with that shit. Also I'm Big Business and i approved this message.

Hmm, I never noticed that. TWW must not allow special characters.

For 0=1+e^(pi*i), all you gotta do is check out the power series for e^x, sin(x), and cos(x). Plug in e^(ix) and you get cos(x)+i sin(x), and you get the equation from that.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taylor_series#List_of_Taylor_series_of_some_common_functions

Ugh. You people are like my husband. I have learned never to ask him what he's thinking. "Well, if we were to travel the speed of the mile markers instead of the speed limit, when would we arrive at our destination?"

I dont think I've seen the "e" function once since I graduated, and I'm an engineer

^ I see it all the time at work. Probably due to being EE.

as much as I like math, I've never really understood the real-imaginary coordinate system. I can fake my way through it, but when it gets down to the fundamentals of what it really means i'm all ed out[Edited on February 8, 2009 at 9:47 AM. 2/8/2009 9:46:16 AM
to get her to switch directions i have to close my eyes and picture her spinning the other way and open my eyes while picturing it. it's weird.[Edited on February 8, 2009 at 9:53 AM. Reason : even that doesn't work sometimes]
2/8/2009 9:51:28 AM
I have to focus on the foot. Gotta picture how the foot would be moving if she were spinning in clockwise/counter-clockwise direction. Whenever I first look at the body, I usually see clockwise.
