So, I woke up today and have what I'm guessing is pink eye. First time I woke up my eye was fine, but the second time my right eye was crusted over and I couldn't open it until I rubbed it all off.
Is there anything I can do to make it go away faster? I have something coming up that I'd rather not had a blood red eye for. 2/9/2009 6:28:33 PM |

go to a doc
you have fecal matter in your eye, thats how you get pink eye
thats the fastest way to get rid of it 2/9/2009 6:31:08 PM |

I had it a couple weeks ago. They'll give you some antibiotic eye drops. DON'T RUB YOUR OTHER EYE AT ALL. Try really hard to pay attention to your hands, how you wipe your face, etc. Or you'll wake up 2maro with a left eye all crusted
Also, pick up some red-eye reducing Visine so the redness isn't visible to others. Good luck!! 2/9/2009 6:33:23 PM |

It's easy (and annoying) to get.
If you wear contacts, take them out and throw them away and wear your glasses for awhile. They usually tell you not to put contacts back in until it's completely gone and you're done treating it. There's some stuff you can buy in the drug aisle of CVS or where ever, but the best thing to do is to go to the doctor. The drops the doctor gave me last time were awesome, they pretty much cleared it in a day. 2/9/2009 6:41:29 PM |

pink eye can be caused by a few very different things, so any advice you get here from someone might be for something different2/9/2009 6:47:14 PM |

if it's viral=use artificial tears and let it run its course if it's bacterial=antibiotic 2/9/2009 7:55:10 PM |

Whenever my sister got it as a kid my mom would always throw a hot steamy washcloth on her eye. I don't know if that actually did anything but I guess it made it feel better at least. 2/9/2009 7:58:31 PM |

I actually went to the doc right after I made this thread, but thanks for all the replies. As far as the fecal matter, I'm told that I got it from this guy from Carnegie Mellon. Fuck that school
Night nurse gave me some eyedrops, can I use them along with Visine? Box says "Gentamicin Sulfate Ophth" 2/9/2009 8:27:45 PM |

I think I'll be walking around tomorrow with these reflective safety glasses and some gloves. Apparently there was an epidemic of pink eye that went around the CHE's at EB1 last year, I don't want to be responsible for it this year lol 2/9/2009 11:04:53 PM |

^^Haha, I meant that it wasn't from 'fecal matter' or anything like that. I was at an international conference this weekend and a guy from Carnegie Mellon kept rubbing his eyes, so I probably got it from him somehow. 2/10/2009 9:00:47 AM |

Bacterial eye infection...for whatever reason 4 people I know have had one in the past 2 weeks. The eye doc actually misdiagnosed my gf twice.
"pink eye" is a blanket term that covers anything causing conjunctivitis (sp?) which can be anything ranging from allergies to viral infections, so you need to be sure you get the right kind of treatment. 2/10/2009 9:41:16 AM |

I actually didn't do anything, but maybe visine drops once or twice, and it cleared up on its own. But it probably wasn't full blown pink eye.

Grrr, my cat got an eye infection (she's got a deformed tear duct or something, happens several times a year no matter what you do) and I think I might have one now. 2/12/2009 1:24:36 PM |

i got pink eye at the beginning of last summer, and my eyes were crusted shut when i woke up that first morning. the first thing i thought of was the beginning of Saw IV when the 2 guys are in the mausoleum and one of the dudes has his eyes sewn shut and i freaked out. 2/12/2009 7:05:00 PM |

omg! i woke up with pink eye too! i am student teaching middle school right now, so it wasn't totally unexpected. went to the doctor and he prescribed vigamox (sp?). i've done two doses now and it's working... also, warm compresses (or washclothes) help make the red go away. good lucK! ps there are lots of different types of pink eye--and they don't all involve poo in your eye. duh. 2/13/2009 4:08:51 PM |

I was prone to getting it a lot as a kid, I've easily had it twenty times. Every time it was the antibiotic eye drops ftw. Oddly enough, I stopped getting it after the age of 19 and haven't had it since...knock on wood. 2/14/2009 10:12:29 PM |
