I still think one of my exs will always be an asshole till the day he dies. he's too self centered.

1 truly amicable one, with the guy I dated my freshman year of college - we just weren't right for each other. but we've been friends since

The only person that I have amicably broken up with is now my husband.
Now that's one amicable break up.

they were the sad kind of "i'm moving away for a long time and we have to do this" breakups

but no ill will involved

i don't think i've ever had ill will involved

but i'm not bff with them either. i don't even really talk to anyone i've dated anymore. not because of ill will. we don't live in the same cities, etc, just moved on.

I'm friendly with everyone except my ex girlfriends. One of my more serious relationships ended with her wanting to still be best friends and me saying you can't be serious... FREEDOOMM! I wouldn't avoid my exs if I ran into them, I'd definitely ask them how they are doing and be cordial. That would probably just piss them off, but I'd rather be civil than ignore someone like that.

I did. But we'd both come to the conclusion to break up around the same time
. . . she just beat me to the punch by 24 hours

I haven't had too many breakups, but the rule seems to be...

when they break up with me, I'm amicable until I get away, at least

when I break up with them, I manage to do it in some tactless, brutal way, and they try to slap me

I guess I was trying to get more at a mutual breakup where there were no feelings what so ever afterwards. The only ones I can think of are Seinfeld/Jeannene Garafolo in that Seinfeld episode and also Meg Ryan/Greg Kinnear in You've Got Mail. And yes, I am aware those are fake relationships.

mutual breakups are nice in theory, but don't exist in practice. Someone is always on the butt end.

**Raises Hand**

Can't say I've really ever had a bad break up.... it is what it is.
Actually, I'm still in touch with most of them, and friends with many of my ex's wives.

it took awhile (years) to be on good terms with some of my exes... the ones that were easy to stay friends with took a shorter amount of time but we weren't really that into each other to begin with... mostly high school stuff

i think it's weird though

sometimes the worse the breakup is, the better the relationship is afterward, and to me it kinda shows that there was some substance there to begin with if there were that many feelings to be hurt.

of course that's kinda bullshit b/c i've had some really meaningful relationships with awful breakups and still have never spoken to them

not like, really dramatic events, just long, drawn out periods of mutual bummedness, never any hatred.

now that i think about it....

a couple of them were my best friends before we dated...we dated...had nasty breakups...then after a few years we were able to be friends again...

the ones i didn't know before we got together are the ones i'm not friends with anymore...

you would be surprised at what you can get over once you've distanced yourself from the emotion of the situation...

maturity and time can heal a lot of wounds

i just don't care about being friends with the people i've broken up with (for the most part). i mean its not like anything bad happened, its just like...over?? i guess that pretty much explains WHY we didn't last in the first place. apparently, we were not going on much if i do not even care about having conversations and seeing them now. its not like i don't care because i'm mad or something, i'm just totally neutral. i'd talk if i saw them, but if i don't, whatevs.
