I can write out a receipt.

I need computers for my science classroom in Durham. Our school does not have ANY money for such things... in fact we don't even have a PTA. I would love to be able to use any computers that are available for 100% classroom instruction, as these kids are missing out on a huge portion of their 21st century education without computers available.

I may have a tower or 2 I can throw your way. They are basic boxes though, no OS, just keyboard/mouse/tower, 256mb ram,, 500 celeron or the equivalent.

surely there are grants out there that you could apply for? I'd imagine a lot of organizations would jump at the chance to provide grants for instructional devices. Have you looked into any? I'll take a look around and see if i can come up with anything. Where do you teach?

I have an old Dell poweredge (1300 maybe?) dual 400 or 450mhz P3s and even a monitor to go with it. Ill have to get it next time I go home. and if that is too slow for the kids, it can be upgraded up to dual slot 1 1.3ghz P3 for less than $50 on ebay. Currently has Windows Server 2003 I think. Ill get up with you when I bring it to raleigh.

and guys, just to be clear, there are some computers at the school ... but there are not nearly enough available on a daily basis for student use.

I have basically all the parts for my old computer except for the case. MB, RAM, GFX, power supply. Are you only looking for complete computers?

I can contribute a monitor; possibly two.

One of them is a 20something inch behomoth, though

I'll show this thread to my fiance. He's got a lot of computer stuff lying around that we don't need.

I also have a giant monitor (20 or 21 inch I think) that I'm looking to get rid of. How would I get it to you?

I've got a monitor I can donate as well. I am looking into getting a new computer fairly soon and once I do, I can get my old computer cleaned off and donate that as well. PM me and let me know how to go about doing this.

Have you checked with your tech department on this? We don't allow teachers to just bring a computer and plug it into our network in my district. We have a couple of donated machines that were new computers from local businesses, but 99.99% of our stuff is computers we purchased. In my two schools I have one donated computer, and I cover K-8 with an average of 2-3 student computers plus 1 teacher computer in every room. The problem comes up with licensing usually, and to make sure that the proper AV software is installed so that your classroom doesn't become a beachead for a virus to get onto your network. Not saying you shouldn't do it, I'm obviously all for computers and all other tech in classrooms, but just check and make sure that its not going to cause problems with your IT dept.

My company has ~20 17" CRTs in Raleigh that we can donate and maybe another ~25 in Greensboro if you wanted them.
