Aha, a bunch of people were just all SON OF A BITCH!

Seriously, I liked that place for the special they had. It was hot and it filled me up. Can't say it was the best pizza ever, but shit, it wasn't awful.

yeah we all did

took some classes with some of the family members and coworkers at one point

i think in raw materials, each pizza cost the establishment ~$0.25

as long as kids eat pizza

they'll be there

That was pretty epic when the owner's daughter or whatever joined the site to defend them.

Probably around 2003. A n00b began posting in the thread talking about how great I<3 NY Pizza was and it turned out to be someone connected to the store. I don't remember who it was for sure, but I think it was his daughter. Didn't rotoryracer make that thread? I'm guessing it is lost forever, but it would be a good one to bring back from the archives if they exist.

well the son was cool in my book too.

Generally speaking, I think that years and years of serving drunk college kids tends to make someone into a dick....and rightfully so.

Go to Sylvia's a few doors down instead. The owner there (Sylvia, evidently it's a male name in Italy) is a super-nice guy, not a dick like the I <3 NY owner. And the pizza is as good or better (with the exception of the white pizza, which for some reason Sylvia doesn't put ricotta on...not the same without it)

As much as I want to talk shit, the simple fact is that I eat at CiCi's about 4 times a week.

Sylvia is mad cool. He'd usually give me the hook up when I went for lunch.

Hell, by my junior year, if I was on campus early, I would just stop by his shop to talk. he wasn't open yet, but he would let me in....cook us some breakfast....and we'd just chill out and watch the morning news until I had to go to class

Man I remember way back when I <3 NY was like 1/4th the size it is now. It used to be really really thin and hard to get through when people were wearing backpacks.

But agreed on Sylvia's. I made the switch to Sylvia's way to late in my college career and I regret it since Sylvia was such a cool guy. I actually rarely got the pizza there, I usually either got the spaghetti lunch special or a stromboli.

I used to love it back in the day. The whole place was like 19" wide, and I was on a long streak of never getting that last slice of pepperoni that was hiding under the counter for a few hours.

Never been to Sylvia's. However, I will make that my next place of patronage.

Sylvias is so much better than NY Pizza, it sucks that NY Pizza is more popular. The crust especially is about 1000x better.

I ate at NY Pizza probably 3 times my whole college career, other than that it was probably 60/40 Sylvias/Amore.

Sylvias was the first place in Raleigh I ate, when my parents brought me down for orientation. It was like the best pizza I had ever eaten.

Man, I haven't been to I Love New York in forever.

I always heard the guy was a dick, but it wasn't something I really ever had experience with. Probably I just never gave him the opportunity -- there's not a whole lot of openings for dickishness when you just order the special, pay, and sit down.

And even though it wasn't as good as other places, it was cheaper than dirt. Two big damn slices and a drink for...well, I can't actually remember how much it was now, but it was next to nothing. I was poor. Sylvia's was probably better, but I'm assuming the reason I hardly ever ate there was that I could get pizza for a lot less down the road.

IIRC Sylvias was the same price. It had the same "2 slices and a drink" combo that NY Pizza did.

The slices were slightly smaller in surface area I think, but it was so much better.

One time, I was in that metal section, and I wanted to get this new Opeth CD. Well, the first few copies were marked $21.95, but I searched through all of them and found two copies that were marked $11.95; an obvious price gun error that saved me ten dollars. Or maybe it cost me $12 since I wasn't about to pay $22 for an Opeth CD, but either way I was happy.
