Aha, a bunch of people were just all SON OF A BITCH!Seriously, I liked that place for the special they had. It was hot and it filled me up. Can't say it was the best pizza ever, but shit, it wasn't awful.

do any of the older twwers remember those threads on here about the owner?
2/10/2009 8:49:51 PM
i do and i'm not that [old]i wish they would move out and schoolkids could move back in
2/10/2009 8:52:30 PM
i remember those threads
2/10/2009 9:04:46 PM
That was pretty epic when the owner's daughter or whatever joined the site to defend them.
2/10/2009 9:09:31 PM
she's pretty hot, incidentally
2/10/2009 9:19:35 PM
^ yeah she is^^ when was this? i must have missed that.
2/10/2009 9:21:00 PM
Probably around 2003. A n00b began posting in the thread talking about how great I<3 NY Pizza was and it turned out to be someone connected to the store. I don't remember who it was for sure, but I think it was his daughter. Didn't rotoryracer make that thread? I'm guessing it is lost forever, but it would be a good one to bring back from the archives if they exist.
2/11/2009 8:39:03 AM
I knew the owner's son. Sail was his name I think. Lived on my hall freshman year.haha, yeah the sister was fucking hot. and yeah, the dad/owner was a dick if I remember correctly.
2/11/2009 8:46:49 AM
not to rawr rawr rawr on you, but with the pizza as shitty as it was, i'm not surprised if he was a dick
2/11/2009 8:59:53 AM
i've never eaten at i ♥ ny pizzanot in all my years in undergrad, and not now in grad schoolshould i try it out, tww? should i?
2/11/2009 9:01:39 AM
hahahawell the son was cool in my book too.Generally speaking, I think that years and years of serving drunk college kids tends to make someone into a dick....and rightfully so.
2/11/2009 9:03:17 AM
Whenever I got pizza there it tasted like it had been sitting out for 6 hours.

Go to Sylvia's a few doors down instead. The owner there (Sylvia, evidently it's a male name in Italy) is a super-nice guy, not a dick like the I <3 NY owner. And the pizza is as good or better (with the exception of the white pizza, which for some reason Sylvia doesn't put ricotta on...not the same without it)
2/11/2009 9:15:09 AM
As much as I want to talk shit, the simple fact is that I eat at CiCi's about 4 times a week.
2/11/2009 9:18:50 AM
Sylvia is mad cool. He'd usually give me the hook up when I went for lunch.Hell, by my junior year, if I was on campus early, I would just stop by his shop to talk. he wasn't open yet, but he would let me in....cook us some breakfast....and we'd just chill out and watch the morning news until I had to go to class
2/11/2009 9:19:39 AM
Man I remember way back when I <3 NY was like 1/4th the size it is now. It used to be really really thin and hard to get through when people were wearing backpacks. But agreed on Sylvia's. I made the switch to Sylvia's way to late in my college career and I regret it since Sylvia was such a cool guy. I actually rarely got the pizza there, I usually either got the spaghetti lunch special or a stromboli.
2/11/2009 9:36:42 AM
All I gots to say is:Rio Ranchero. It's not nearly as good as it used to be, but *shrug*, its still aaight.
2/11/2009 9:46:30 AM
I ♥ NY Pizza will never shut down because it is FUCKING AWESOME[Edited on February 11, 2009 at 9:52 AM. Reason : ]

I used to love it back in the day. The whole place was like 19" wide, and I was on a long streak of never getting that last slice of pepperoni that was hiding under the counter for a few hours.Never been to Sylvia's. However, I will make that my next place of patronage.
2/11/2009 10:00:51 AM
Sylvia is the man!
2/11/2009 10:07:17 AM
Sylvias is so much better than NY Pizza, it sucks that NY Pizza is more popular. The crust especially is about 1000x better.I ate at NY Pizza probably 3 times my whole college career, other than that it was probably 60/40 Sylvias/Amore.
2/11/2009 10:11:36 AM
i got food poisoning from this piece of shit place
2/11/2009 10:14:05 AM
Sylvia's definitely way better than ny pizza
2/11/2009 10:24:50 AM
Man, I haven't been to I Love New York in forever.I always heard the guy was a dick, but it wasn't something I really ever had experience with. Probably I just never gave him the opportunity -- there's not a whole lot of openings for dickishness when you just order the special, pay, and sit down. And even though it wasn't as good as other places, it was cheaper than dirt. Two big damn slices and a drink for...well, I can't actually remember how much it was now, but it was next to nothing. I was poor. Sylvia's was probably better, but I'm assuming the reason I hardly ever ate there was that I could get pizza for a lot less down the road.
2/11/2009 10:27:51 AM
IIRC Sylvias was the same price. It had the same "2 slices and a drink" combo that NY Pizza did.The slices were slightly smaller in surface area I think, but it was so much better.
2/11/2009 10:35:33 AM
I was big into amore and rarely went to I <3 NY Pizza even though I too had classes with Sail, the owners son.

2/11/2009 1:17:41 PM

2/11/2009 1:49:28 PM

2/11/2009 2:22:44 PM
the upstairs is chained off nowthat used to be the metal, blues, and soundtrack sectionsand right next to/under the stairs were giant bargain bins*sigh*
2/11/2009 2:42:08 PM
They have one open in Knightdale and in Briar creek.
2/11/2009 2:43:51 PM
the good old metal section lol
2/11/2009 2:47:12 PM
One time, I was in that metal section, and I wanted to get this new Opeth CD. Well, the first few copies were marked $21.95, but I searched through all of them and found two copies that were marked $11.95; an obvious price gun error that saved me ten dollars. Or maybe it cost me $12 since I wasn't about to pay $22 for an Opeth CD, but either way I was happy.[Edited on February 11, 2009 at 2:50 PM. Reason : l]
