Your assessment of this situation is entirely incorrect. Without letterman taking over, that would have been the most boring interview in the history of tv. You don't go on a show and give one word yes/no answers and ignore simple questions about who your co-stars were in your movie. Phoenix was being a dick here, no question about it.
