this seems like a perfect opportunity to negotiate for a raise and a company car
2/12/2009 8:11:38 AM
uh, comparing fucking 2001 to now is retarded
2/12/2009 8:11:46 AM
^explain?
2/12/2009 8:14:50 AM
Let's see the Great Depression on there.
2/12/2009 8:15:43 AM
exactly. and make it a percentage or something so it's actually relative
2/12/2009 8:16:29 AM
Jesus Christ, the total employment population hasn't changed all that much since 2001, so yes, it is very relevant. And yes, there is that same chart plus other recessions that have it broken down by percentage. If some of you folks ventured out of chit chat every now and then you'd know this.[Edited on February 12, 2009 at 8:22 AM. Reason : .]
2/12/2009 8:18:46 AM
manipulate the data so you can make a stronger point, thats what this is. Not saying we're not in a bad way right now, but with the limited data on the chart, it makes it look worse.^I'm just curious why other depressions weren't presented on this chart? I mean, they keep comparing this to the great depression, so why not include it.[Edited on February 12, 2009 at 8:20 AM. Reason : ]
2/12/2009 8:18:50 AM
Hey, it's still pretty shitty even in percentage terms compared to the two data sets listed (that is, they look the same)[Edited on February 12, 2009 at 8:22 AM. Reason : .]
2/12/2009 8:20:52 AM
I'm no expert on this, I try to keep up, but I know the government stepped in and took measures to help during those past recessions, but how much did they really, especially compared to what they're doing now. Looks like the market rebounded all those other times...just saying
2/12/2009 8:23:28 AM

I'm really just trolling, calm down. I've seen the lay offs where I work and it's shitty as hell to see. I'm in automotive so I've seen how bad it is. What those statistics don't account for is the amount of hourly people that are only working 2-3 days a week instead of the 5-6 w/overtime that they used to be doing...so in my opinion it's worse than some of those stats lead you to believe
2/12/2009 8:36:45 AM
Unemployment is a flawed indicator if you are looking at short term data. Since it takes a month for the reports to come it, as soon as the data is in, it is already a month out of date. There are economists already predicting that some indicators are showing recovery while unemployment is still growing because of the lag in the flow of information.
2/12/2009 8:36:48 AM
There was a recession in 2001?
