Jesus Christ, the total employment population hasn't changed all that much since 2001, so yes, it is very relevant. And yes, there is that same chart plus other recessions that have it broken down by percentage. If some of you folks ventured out of chit chat every now and then you'd know this.

manipulate the data so you can make a stronger point, thats what this is. Not saying we're not in a bad way right now, but with the limited data on the chart, it makes it look worse.

^I'm just curious why other depressions weren't presented on this chart? I mean, they keep comparing this to the great depression, so why not include it.

Hey, it's still pretty shitty even in percentage terms compared to the two data sets listed (that is, they look the same)

I'm no expert on this, I try to keep up, but I know the government stepped in and took measures to help during those past recessions, but how much did they really, especially compared to what they're doing now. Looks like the market rebounded all those other times...just saying

I'm really just trolling, calm down. I've seen the lay offs where I work and it's shitty as hell to see. I'm in automotive so I've seen how bad it is. What those statistics don't account for is the amount of hourly people that are only working 2-3 days a week instead of the 5-6 w/overtime that they used to be doing...so in my opinion it's worse than some of those stats lead you to believe

Unemployment is a flawed indicator if you are looking at short term data. Since it takes a month for the reports to come it, as soon as the data is in, it is already a month out of date. There are economists already predicting that some indicators are showing recovery while unemployment is still growing because of the lag in the flow of information.

nah, not wake tech

it's not quite as bad as "13th grade" as long as you're not taking anything too remedial

they do, however, apparently teach fractions and arithmetic in the same room as my math class the period before

wow, I take it back, some girls started playing "pop, lock, and drop it" on their laptop in the cafeteria here

jesus fucking christ what sort of people come into a cafeteria that already has overhead speakers, sit down in the middle of the room, crank their laptop up to drown out the overhead speakers and sound like shit, then play the shittiest music in the world that nobody else wants to hear

"Banks Rescue Will 'Make Things Worse': Rogers
Tuesday February 10, 2009, 12:35 pm EST

The new financial rescue plan may not work and could even make things worse because it plunges the US further into debt and it is designed by the same people who failed to forecast the crisis and take measures, legendary investor Jim Rogers told CNBC Tuesday.

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner will unveil a long-awaited package of measures to help the financial sector at 11 am New York time.

But Rogers said Geithner, who was president of the New York Federal Reserve Bank, "has been dead wrong about everything for 15 years in a row," and so was President Barack Obama's economic advisor Lawrence Summers, who acted as Treasury Secretary at the turn of the century.

"It is mind-boggling to me," Rogers told "Squawk Box Europe."

"If I were on your show 15 weeks in a row and was wrong, you'd probably never invite me back. These guys have been wrong year after year after year consistently and here they are making the same mistakes again. This is not going to solve the problem, it's going to make it worse."

He said he was not contemplating investing into financials, as bankruptcies were still possible, and banks were still trying to find out how affected they were by the crisis.

"What's happening is they've all panicked, cutting back everything, trying to see what they've got," Rogers said.

Big companies such as AIG (NYSE:AIG - News) or Fannie Mae (NYSE: fnm) as well as other US banks don't know how to value their assets, he said.

"Everybody is frozen, trying to figure out ok, what are we worth, what do we do?"

In addition, the recent shifts towards protectionism are harmful, Rogers warned.

"This is very dangerous, that's what caused the great depression in the 1930s. If it happens again, then you'd better sell all the stocks, you'd better sell a lot of everything and bunker down," he said.

"We already have a lot of social unrest developing. If protectionism comes back, you'd better be really, really careful," Rogers added. "

In state tuition for state for one semester was on the order of 2800 dollars I believe for this semester with the fees and all in the College of Engineering.

I agree.

"Oh sweet! -3500 jobs lost? That means 3500 more jobs for people."
vs
"Oh no! 3500 jobs lost? That's a lot more lost than in past recessions.

"Oh sweet! I got a bill for -$500. I'll cash the $500 check ASAP."
