1998 dakota
i went out and tried it after it dried and when i hit "unlock" it blew the horn like it's supposed to when you hit "lock". i let it sit a while longer and now it won't do anything.
i've found some OEM key fobs for fairly cheap on ebay. from what i've gathered on google i'll have to have it programmed at the dealership though. any ideas on how much it'll cost? 2/14/2009 11:28:50 PM |

it'll be at least 1 book hour at $90/hr.

I had to buy a new one for my truck, and to "program" it, it was something simple...like I had to cycle the key 3 times which would unlock the computer or something, then just push a button on the new fob..maybe there is something like this for the dakotas as well 2/15/2009 8:31:58 AM |

take the old one apart, and wipe down the circuit board with alcohol, let it dry, then try it again
it shows .3 hours of labor for the programming
[Edited on February 15, 2009 at 9:52 AM. Reason : yes you have to have the DRB scan tool to program the new transmiter code] 2/15/2009 9:41:38 AM |

approx. $50 at the dealership if you bring one in for programming. 2/15/2009 10:39:12 AM |

^^
May as well do as he suggested while you order one. I bet you will snap the entire plastic thing into a non recoverable state after having used over sized flat head screwdrivers. hhmm have I done that before?

i've found instructions for programming a 1997 dakota, and a 1999 dakota
so unless yours is the only model ever to need dealership programming
google more 2/15/2009 12:39:31 PM |

a honda is not a chrysler product, and i would like to see these "instructions for a 1997 and 1999 dakota"
how much experience have you had with 94-02 chrysler anti-theft systems/body computers?
none you say? then you need to shut the fuck up because you hve no idea what the fuck you are talking about
you have two options, get a key fob with the same rf code programmed, which is prohibitively expensive and difficult to find someone that can do that, and is impossible if the old one doesn't work, or USE A FUCKING DRB SCANTOOL

^^^you're partially correct, but not really. perfect example of how google can be helpful, but not gospel. the deal is you can program additional fobs yourself on chrysler products, but ONLY if you already have at least one fob correctly programmed and functioning. that's been my experience anyway, fwiw from the resident mopar "expert". i'm going out on a limb and assuming he probably doesn't have a backup if he's concerned with fixing/replacing this one.
you can also pretty safely assume 69 is giving accurate info 99% of the time on stuff like this. combined with irl experience with a wide variety of stuff, he's probably reading from alldata to boot...
