Listening to their magnetic-or-what-the-fuck-ever album on playlist.com... usually turning up the volume improves the passion element, but it's just...

not...

any good...

They should have just stopped after Black.

This is a milestone in my life. I have always held suspension of disbelief that Metallica might come through some day and do something worthwhile. But it has all been in vain.

Black album was horrible. And all the ones after it have been horrible. The one song I have heard off the new one is ok.

Fuck Metallica

Quote :
"Metallica's self-righteous and curiously unknowing statement doesn't take into account the fact that millions of Americans have been accessing free music for years now, and have come to see their music archives as both a right and an integral part of their lives. Nor will the lawsuit encourage artists or the music industry to explore the many alternative -- yet still profitable -- models of distribution that reflect the new realities of the Internet. Artists have a right to be paid for their music, but the rash of lawsuits don't solve the copyright problems spawned by the Net, they simply drive them underground.

Free and downloadable music will always be available to college kids with enough bandwith -- there remain hundreds, if not thousands of music- sharing software programs all over the Web, including AIM and ICQ.

Mostly, Metallica has ensured that poorer kids or people without vast bandwidth will be cut off from acquiring music, from experimenting, from fostering new bands. Many artists have welcomed the spread of digital music distribution, claiming it frees them from the monopolistic control (and high cost of dealing with) record companies, permits them to reach new audiences, and generates interest in new forms of music. Meanwhile, Variety reports, the record companies made record profits last year -- $15 billion -- despite the endless handwringing about online pirates and the epidemic of lawsuits.

Metallica's efforts to shroud its greed and publicity-seeking in morality is as transparent as it is self-righteous. The band ought to get its wish. Fans might consider stopping trading, downloading -- or buying -- the band's music in any form until it permits educational, legal and artistic institutions to try to come to grips with the new realities of law on the digital frontier.

black really started to prove that metallica wasn't a victim of one style and didn't have to have 4 minute solos in every song to sound good. it's different than the first few metallica albums, but different != bad

^ You're wrong.

I'm not a metal guy at all, and the first four Metallica albums are all great. The black album is not. In fact, the only song on it that I still care for is "Sad but True."

Fair enough, but let it be known that "It sold a bunch of copies and there are hits on it" is the single worst possible defense for a record's merit.

i can name a million albums that sell well and have "hits" on the radio, and they suck.

we'll start with bands like hinder and nickelback. selling does not = good. it just means a lot of people like bad music

I think a record's merit can be measured multiple ways. $$$ being one measure.

pretty much spot on for me, although I might not say great since I am not a huge metallica fan, the first 4 metallica albums are very good and each has some great songs. after that I havent enjoyed a single one of their albums

i think $$$ is like the most unreliable form of a record's merit

If you think sales is a good measure of a record's worth, then you think hooksaw employs sound, logical argumentation.

the only measure of music is subjective

either you like it, or you don't

if you like it, it's good music to you

you fucking people
