Orthodox Christians don't have Ash Wednesday, so I get to keep eating what I want until Monday. Suck on that, Protestants and Catholics!

Unfortunately, our Easter is a week later than yours, so you still come out better in the long run.

It's supposed to be part of a process, not an end unto itself. Lent (and the various other fasting periods pursued by various denominations) is about learning self-denial and managing temptations so that you'll be better at those things in general. So failure to participate in Lent isn't a sin, really, but a general failure to control temptations in your life will lead to plenty of sins.

There, I tried to give a brief account of what Lent actually is. It will have accomplished approximately dick.

nothing. even when i was religious i didn't do this. i don't think it was a presbyterian thing.

anyway, if you are religious why can't you just know you are religious without having to brag about giving up some vice (that clearly you can't live without the rest of the year) and walking around with ash on your head.

if you really care that much, why not just give up the vice completely.
