in response to terrorist attacks in the country. Good work, guys.

Quote : | " Mogadishu - Somalia's President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed said on Saturday he accepted a proposal by local and foreign religious leaders for a truce with hardline Islamists and the implementation of shari'ah, or Islamic law.
The religious leaders are trying to mediate between the government and its foes who have ramped up their onslaught against the new president, elected on January 31.
"I met with religious leaders and elders and accepted their demand for ceasefire and reconciliation with the opposition members and I call on all opposition parties to halt the unnecessary violence," Ahmed told reporters.
"The mediators asked me to introduce Islamic shari'ah in the country and I agreed," he added.
30 killed in last week
Hardline Shebab militia and other Islamist fighters have waged battles against the government and its allies. At least 30 people were killed in the last week in the bloodiest clashes since the president was elected.
They have vowed to fight on until all foreign forces in Somalia withdraw and shari'ah is imposed.
The African Union peacekeepers whom they have also repeatedly attacked are the only foreign troops in the country after Ethiopian soldiers pulled out last month.
"We asked the president to implement Islamic sharia in the country and accept mediation," said Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, chairperson of Somalia's Union of Islamic Scholars.
"He agreed and we hope this will end the violence in the country."
However, the proposal to introduce shari'ah would have to be ratified by parliament.
The president also said that the government had relocated to Mogadishu from neighbouring Djibouti, which hosted United Nations-brokered talks that led to his election.
The new government, which comprises 36 ministers, began work on Saturday, Ahmed said.

all these fucking rebels/insurgents/terrorists in many countries physically fighting to impose shariah on people by force think they are on the right path and will be rewarded by Allah. in reality, they will have a rude awakening on the day of reckoning when they are punished and thrown into hell for fighting against peaceful rulers and killing innocent civilians.
Allah damn them 3/1/2009 9:16:08 PM |

^^ why is that? because i am against the iraq war? because i am against the US attacking countries here and there?
those are the EXACT reasons why i am against those bastards as well. i am pro-peace, pro-freedom, pro-choice. and i am anti-violence, anti-coercion, and anti-hegemony. 3/1/2009 9:35:43 PM |

^^ i don't really blame him... there is a general impression among many users that i support terrorism, at least tacitly.
anyway, the same thing is happening in Swat Valley in pakistan. it is stunningly beautiful there, and has been compared with switzerland. there was a booming tourism trade there many years ago. now, it has been ravaged by the pakistani taliban, and in fact, the local leaders agreed to let them impose shariah on the local people in exchange for a cease-fire.
it is sad
here is a good one:

i just think its funny and sad that you think there's an afterlife....
...and that you're content to allow them to meet justice in that afterlife instead of calling for their asses to be hunted down and their lives made miserable in THIS life
but then I realize that it all actually makes sense why you'd feel that way. 3/1/2009 10:25:44 PM |

Quote : | "i just think its funny and sad that you think there's an afterlife.... " |
yes i believe there is an afterlife. as do billions of other humans, muslims or otherwise. and it is none of yo business.
Quote : | "...and that you're content to allow them to meet justice in that afterlife instead of calling for their asses to be hunted down and their lives made miserable in THIS life" |
here is the trolling i am referring to. OMFG HE IS NOT TOUGH ON TERRORISM WHERE THE FUCK did i say or imply that they shouldn't be hunted down and killed??? the punishment in the afterlife is regardless of what their fate is in this world, since, you know, the afterlife and this world are 2 separate places
of course i want them to be captured and preferably killed. what Allah will do to them on the day of reckoning he will do to them regardless of whether they are blown to bits on this earth or they die in luxury eating sushi and lobster of old age eating goat meat curry.
Quote : | "but then I realize that it all actually makes sense why you'd feel that way." |
and i have no clue WTF that means. you obviously know me more than i do myself. please enlighten me as to my own beliefs and convictions.

jesus dude... do you always assume things and ascribe ideas to people? that's very arrogant of you.
the only reason i brought up the afterlife issue is because of how THEY say they are doing Allah's duty and would be rewarded for it. i was telling people here that they are totally wrong about that.

Fuck Somalia. Of all the things I've read about it, the people I've talked to who were over there, everything I've seen on the news, not one solitary damn thing seems to suggest there's any hope for it being a functional country.
I'm at a complete loss for what to do about it, other than "Just ignore it unless something dangerous pops up and then bomb that something." 3/2/2009 12:24:13 AM |

This sucks,
but it could hardly be called appeasement. Compromises must be made in national governments. Were our founding fathers appeasers for agreeing to the 3/5th Compromise?
Having a stable gov't in Somalia trumps other concerns. Better a crappy government than anarchy. Hopefully in a couple decades they'll move beyond theocracy. 3/2/2009 10:22:33 AM |

interesting note regarding the 3/5 compromise. the slave states wanted blacks to count as 5/5 of human beings, but the northern states didn't want to count them at all. 3/5 was a concession to the slave holding states.
.... now can anyone guess why? hint: its not flattering to slave states 3/2/2009 12:09:38 PM |

What is there to guess? Southern states wanted slaves to count so that they would have more representation in Congress. I learned that in like 6th grade. 3/2/2009 12:36:57 PM |

For all i fucking care AJ or Saddam Hussein Jr. is running Somalia. Many Americans do not realize having been indoctrinated in 6th grade history class (Freedom and Democracy wooo!!! USA #1) is that in some places in the world are better off with a strong powerful ruler that can bring stability and order to a country. Even if guilty, to a tolerance, of human rights abuses an absolute rule is better than the alternative of a failed democracy/aristocracy where sects fight for power, bicker over petty issues, and potentially allow the country to fall into anarchical chaos.
There is a reason why the most successful nations during the middle ages even into the colonial era were those ruled by a powerful monarch passed down through heredity (even if limited to a constitutional monarch). Not until the age of enlightenment or even the industrial age do i think more democratic forms of governments were viable except for a few cases.

^^ yea, but most people blame racists for only crediting blacks with 3/5 of humanity when in fact racists wanted blacks to count as 5/5, but for racist reasons.
and yes, i know that some people already know this. guess what, you'll also know a lot of other things that get stated on this message board. welcome to the internet. 3/2/2009 12:58:23 PM |

Maybe. That, or it'll simply help direct the flow of pirate booty to Islamic groups. On the flip side, it may provide a more centralized target for the international community to coordinate with (or coerce) to bring the piracy problem under control.3/2/2009 2:43:37 PM |

You have shown sympathy with some terrorist organizations in the past, so yes, it does surprise me to hear you say something different. It's actually refreshing. Granted, your "sympathies" have mostly been with respect to attacks on Israel, but still.3/6/2009 10:06:54 AM |
