so i've been toying with the idea of getting a few cameras that operate off a standard wireless g network and upload to a remote server
i'd also like them to be motion-activated
have any of you done something like this before and if so can you point me in the right direction of where to start? 3/2/2009 7:37:11 PM |

a) You don't want wireless security cameras.
b) You don't want USB security cameras.
You want regular ol' security cameras.
This is what you want. Pretty much anything from Swann or D-Link (not their shitty usb stuff, but their real cameras).
^^Is interesting, I'll have to check it out. I highly recommend Active WebCam. It's amazing, although very ugly in it's interface. It's extremely inexpensive and works really well. Motion detection, alerts, all the bells and whistles.
You then just need a video capture card. Any 10 dollar USB composite input dongle will work. You effectively end up with a "web cam", except one that has IR night vision, better wide-angle, is weather proofed and extension cables are cheap. 3/2/2009 10:22:03 PM |
