05 3.6L Cadillac CTS Non nav. 50k. No accidents.
To pull the codes, do you just press F1 and F6 on the radio?
I've got a 'check airbag' message on the information center display. Did not know that airbag components would go bad after 50k. 3/9/2009 6:18:41 PM |

Doesn't this thing have a conventional OBD-II connector? It's no big deal if so...any good shop or tech should have a scan tool that can pull any of the codes including airbag and powertrain. 3/10/2009 1:34:13 AM |

The generic code readers for 30 will only show you that.
You need a scantool with specific software. 3/10/2009 2:51:14 AM |

yeah, you need a techII or the like for that. sucks they eliminated the ability to display things, it's a neat feature.
you can still pull some codes though, as you've found. do you have an airbag light on or cel? it's unlikely to be an actual airbag component. i'd lean more towards a seat or buckle sensor if you've got a confirmed issue. there's also certain codes that are tripped by mileage simply to have a certain component or system checked. could just be that.

airbag light is on. driver information screen states "service airbag".

where can i steal a techII from? 3/13/2009 7:57:54 PM |

ummm, any gm dealer.
yeah, if the light is on i'd damn near bet for sure it's just a sensor. it's pretty rare for any of the major components to go bad on modern systems. maybe 69 can help you out with the test procedures and diagrams from alldata.
lemme holler at a guy i used to work with at thompson cadillac, might be able to help you out with getting a techII on it for $free.

ivan, thanks for the advice.
car is gone, no more worries.
thanks A LOT though. if the car shows up again, might have to take you up on your boy at the dealership. 3/14/2009 2:30:46 PM |
