Let me count the ways
1. Better Venue, Consistent Venue
MSG every year vs Atlanta, Greensboro, Charlotte, DC, Tampa etc
2. Better Teams
Louisville, Pitt, Georgetown, UConn, Villanova, Syracuse, and Notre Dame all resonate on a National Level
The ACC, despite what you may think, is still nationally thought of as UNC, Duke and the Retard Crew
3. Better Coaches
Boeheim, Pitino, Calhoun are legends...Jay Wright and Jamie Dixon are two of the hottest young coaches in the country
K and Roy are great...Gary Williams is a distant 3rd...but the rest of the coaches are a who's who of inexperienced Uncle Tom's
I could go on, but those are the main 3 reasons IMO
Now I'm not the biggest fan of the new concept this year where all 16 teams make the tournament
But by and large, its clearly better in almost every other way 3/12/2009 4:30:59 PM |

well of course it is better. but not being a fan of a big east team is the one problemo. still awesome basketball to watch, though. 3/12/2009 4:33:01 PM |

i'll give you calhoun and pitino, but i'm kinda underwhelmed with wright and boeheim. boeheim's teams are typically marginal to decent, with his championship run as the outlier. i'm pretty sure they weren't even ranked that year until march.
wright strikes me as kinda the same way, with typically decent teams and the occasional pretty good team 3/12/2009 4:36:45 PM |

lol does the MSG announcer really read the score after every play?
this sounds like an MTV rock-n-jock environment 3/12/2009 4:36:54 PM |

I agree with this... but its from the quarterfinals on... the first two days suck because it's so big.
^ it's the same announcer who does Knicks games... he's always done that.

Wright is still VERY young. He's one of the best young head coaches in the game IMO...

When's the last time you actually talked college basketball in spoken conversation with people outside of your circle of friend(s) ?

It's not really trolling. It's being objective.
I'm a huge Big East fan but I ain't sitting here deluding myself in to thinking it was a great football conference this year.
In general, ACC fans will KILL the Big East and Big East fans will KILL the ACC... in all respects. Fans of the two conferences just hate the other.
----
I'm going to use this as my Big East tourney thread. What the fuck was McNeal thinking there? He's supposed to be one of the top defenders in the country and he pulled a Dennis Horner (defined as being completely out of posititon as your defender gets free and scores a big bucket). 3/12/2009 4:45:31 PM |

I don't disagree that a conference tournament isn't going to be as big outside of the region, but I'm also pretty sure the ACC and Big East tourneys, or Big East and ACC tourneys, are probably the top 2 nationally 3/12/2009 5:17:46 PM |

I would argue Bob Huggins should be on that list of legendary Big East coaches. He ranks 8th all-time in winning percentage and seventh in victories among active D1 coaches.
Having gone to both an ACC and a Big East school, I would say the Big East is the better conference and has the better tourney this year. The amount of talent in the Big East right now is just insane.

If it were as 12-to-12 comparison, I'd give the nod to the Big East. But having teams like South Florida, DePaul, Rutgers and St. John's make up the bottom of the conference hurts in my opinion. Top-to-bottom, I'd say the ACC is the better conference.
Either way, it's a close comparison and you can't get away saying that the ACC is "UNC, Duke, and the Retard Crew." 3/12/2009 6:15:42 PM |

If Louisville gets a 1 seed it will be a travesty, they have by far the easiest big east schedule. I think the best bet for the big east is to divide the conference into 2 leagues, an A league and a B league, where in the bottom 3 teams from league A get relegated to league B and the top 3 from B get promoted to A. League A will have a conference tournament featuring all 8 teams at the end of each season, while B will give its bid to the regular season champ its league much like the ivy league. 3/12/2009 10:42:51 PM |
