yes, it was most def a Christmas special. but IIRC, HBO would play it for damn near two months solid.

my brother and sister and I loved that show. "Ain't No Hole in the Washtub" was a jammin song. tho i liked teh nightmare band better.

I used to watch this show religiously as a kid on HBO.

You can buy it on DVD, however, it is edited slightly from the original HBO version. The original version started with Kermit the Frog riding a bicycle down a dirt road and being almost hit by the riverbottom gang. He sort of sets up the story. all of his scenes are gone. Still great though.

the washtub bass is a one stringed instrument, saps

the stick in the washtub is is moved to different positions to create different tensions on the string so as to produce different notes

I used to love this as a kid. My nephew is about to turn 2 and every time he goes to my grandmothers house he just starts saying "Otters" because he wants to watch it. Fucking hell now I'm going to have to watch this.

the current DVD version, even though it omits the Kermit stuff (which was pulled for legal/rights reasons) does have a ton of extras, including a song that wasn't used, plus like an hour long documentary and outtakes, etc. Really awesome DVD actually.

Here is the original opening. (sorry I can't embed)

Quote :
"The original special was hosted by Kermit the Frog; however, later releases edited out the frog's narration due to legal issues. While The Jim Henson Company retained ownership of Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas, the company sold the rights to the Muppets (including Kermit) to the Walt Disney Company in 2004."

Well that's lame.

d00d Jim Henson should just sell Emmet Otter to Walt Disney so the full special can be re-released
