This is probably the most poorly written news piece i've ever read outside of the N&O .

It sounds like Obama read his speech first, but it was Cowen's? And that he thanked himself (whatever that means) at the end, but no one noticed it was Cowen's speech until Cowen started to deliver the same speech??? Does this mean neither Cowen or Obama read their speeches in advance? Was Obama making a joke? I'm really lost with this story.

I would honestly be surprised if many on here listened to rush.

The first time ive ever really seen him was during his hannity interview. I then watched his address on cspan, which i thought he was SO full of himself, but a lot of the things he said, politically, I agreed with.

And I do agree if bush had done this they would have been all over him. Hell remember that time he tried to go out a locked door? It was on every news and late night. HOwever, obama tried to go in a fucking window and no talk at all. However, one had a video of it.

There was plenty of talk about the Obama/window thing, but most people agreed it looked like a door.

And if Bush had done this at this point in his presidency, i doubt anything would have been made of it.

What I don't get is how the right constantly attempts to mock obama for using a teleprompter, when he still doesn't do a bad job at all with the teleprompter, and Bush and most other politicians on TV use a teleprompter. Why dig so deeply for such a weak argument?

honestly, I think most "righties" as you say, point out the teleprompter to try to demostrate he is just a empty suit who just is good at reading from the teleprompter not actually thinking for himself.

However, he is the best speaker since clinton there is no denying that. I do think you are being a little sensitive if you think that Obamas use of the teleprompter is a major concern with many of us "righties". That simply isnt the case at all. If he could get some good policies I wouldnt care if he read from a light bright, as long as this policies were for the good of the country.

But he is earning the nickname the "teleprompter president" by many in the press, which are NOT full of righties.

The problem is that using a teleprompter doesn't really show this.

And Obama would have to screw up a lot more to make this a valid claim anyway. He has already given some great speeches during the primaries, and he was a law professor who was offered a tenured position, it just doesn't make any sense at this point to say that he's "just an empty suit."

Cowen started reading, then stopped when he realized it didn't.

While they were waiting for it to change, Obama stepped up and said a few words that he assumed Cowen would say (as if he were Cowen).

Then finished by saying Thank You to President Obama

As if he were Cowen

in that case, Bush was in China, i believe, and he was clearly trying to make a "fast get-a-way" from the reporters trying to ask him questions. So, it was funny because 1) his attempt at trying to duck out of the room quickly was foiled by a locked door, then 2) his reaction to the door, which was classic Bush, in a kind of endearing sort of way.

well, i think from those two sentences, it's still not clear what Obama actually did and what was on the telepromptor.
When Cowen stepped away because Obama's speech was up, did the prompter guys put Cowen's speech up, just in time for Obama to get back to the podium to start reading? And then Obama, who had already given his speech, just start reading what was on the prompter, which would have contained something like "I thank President Obama for inviting us all here"?
Or, when Obama stepped up the podium, was his earlier speech still on the prompter, so he did some ad'lib and tried to make a joke?

It's just not clear - this is clearly a time when seeing a video of the event would make it clear what actually happened, instead of a shoddy reporter trying to make clever points instead of reporting what really went on
