What happens when you hit a stationary car while backing out?

I was backing my pick up truck in a library parking lot and slightly hit a camry parked on the other side. The car alarm for the Camry went off. I parked in my original spot again and got out. I talked to the lady and we exchanged info, she got my name, #, and driver license #.
We did not report this to the police. My main concern is will my insurance rise, if she reports this to her or my insurance company? It was only a minor scratch on her car. Thanks in advance.

It's considered a collision. It depends on your insurance company, but your rate will probably go up.

if its just a scratch then fix it out of pocket and it won't change your rates. It may even be less than your deductible.

I never mentioned that I could pay them the damage. I think they might tell their insurance company which will then tell mine. But if we did not report this to the police at all, then am I off the hook for having my rates raised. I wouldnt mind paying for damage, but I really cant afford to have my rates raised.

1) if this is your first time, some insurances (like state farm) lets it slide. Call and ask?
2) If you think it will be less than 500, call the lady you hit and let her know your concern. I'm sure she'll understand and let you pay for it. She might even just tell you to just buy her a touch-up paint pen

Good luck. Insurance points are horrible and in most cases not fair.

You don't pay a deductible when you hit someone else. Deductible is for a claim against your own policy.

No. If they contact your insurance company and file a claim then you're going to get hit with whatever your insurance company does for your first wreck.

No, you are at her mercy to not file a claim. If it's as minor as you claim it to be, I would pay for it out of pocket, regardless of whether or not your insurance company would waive the rate increase for first incident.

that is actually true. If there isn't a police report either party can say it never happened. case closed.

and yes, i know this from experience.

^ Oh I know. nasheet90 could say he has no idea what she's talking about she would be SOL, but people file insurance claims all the time without a police report. And if the insurance company requires it you can always call the police at a later date and get one. I assure you that you don't have to get it immediately for the insurance claim to work as long as both people are honest.

Now if Ragged hits you and you don't get a police report you're probably fucked.
