Sometimes i'll just find it open and it won't close and the only way i can fix this is to unplug/replug the opener. I wouldn't mind so much if it'd just fail closed, but apparently it has enough wherewithal to open up before it locks itself down.

I think it MIGHT have something to do with temperature changes or maybe possibly the rain?

How the hell can i diagnose and fix this?

My stupid home warranty doesn't cover this - would insurance?

check all your remote controls and make sure there isn't a stuck button, even if you can't tell that it's stuck. Take the batteries out of all the remotes for a while and see if it still happens

A new opener is like $150. Just swap it.

Insurance? For real?

I think this happened to my parents once when one of the garage door openers had nearly dead batteries. It was either that or, when it rained, something got shorted out on the outdoor opener which caused it to trigger the door repeatedly.

if it was the transmitters i don't think i'd have to unplug/replug it to get it to work again

just called the manufacturer and they're sending out a new board for only the cost of shipping and told me to also check the wall button wire as the other possible cause

sweet, it's always a pleasure to find good customer service

I had this issue, we had a spare remote under the phone book in a drawer... not sure how it seemed to always get pressed at 3 AM. Once I found the extra remote, removed from drawer = no issues since.

i could take the battery out of the spare just to be safe, but i'm pretty sure it's none of the transmitters

^^^^if it wasn't randomly intermittent i could probably figure it out; i already redid the sensors thinking it was them but no dice

if it was a simple beam trigger then it shouldn't freeze in the open position

they sent me a new board for about $6 to cover the shipping that i'm going to install tonight/tomorrow, so hopefully that'll cover it

only other thing that could be causing it according to them is the wiring of the wall button, and for that i'd probably have to hire someone to go into the attic and fix for me since the attic stairs probably wouldn't hold me

Maybe you got some punks in your neighborhood who bought a universal garage door opener and have been playing with you.

not if it's a newer opener that uses rolling codes.

new board installed

i'm still a bit skittish about leaving it unplugged at night

there's just no way to know if it's still broken or fixed until it breaks again
