I need to (borrow / buy) a chip burner capable of programming an "Eprom Chip - SST (27SF512) Chip"
I may cross post this in tech talk. Is that against tdub rules?
It's for a p28 Honda ECU if you're nosy. We may be talking TRIPLE DIGIT HORSEPOWER here folks, hahahahah.
Arghx / Baonest I expect some help from you here!!!!!!1 3/31/2009 8:18:49 AM |

dude
if you aren't going to get the Hondata S300, which i HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend (you can get a used one and then buy the adapter harness), you need to get an ostrich ROM emulator. Without that, you will have to turn the car off every time you make changes to your tune! I don't think you realize how much of a bitch that is when tuning for driveabililty and especially idle. don't be a cheapass!

but really man, speaking from personal experience, the S300 is basically 90% of the functionality of the AEM EMS without most of the bullshit. It is hands-down the best combination of features and user friendly interface I have ever used on any application--far better than my Power FC. The software is actually navigable (unlike the AEM EMS with 50 gazillion mostly useless menus and tables), it retains factory closed loop capability (which is awesome if you understand how fuel trims work), and it still allows 0-5v inputs and 12V (nitrous, alky) or pulsewidth modulated outputs (EBC output through the factory EGR pin I believe). The instructions and writeups are actually helpful.
The main limitation of the s300 (for normal applications) is that it requires you to retain the OEM engine sensors, but most people don't even care about that. You don't need a ROM programmer or a ROM emulator. I have personally used the s300 on a turbo D series. I had the fuel trims zero'd out in an hour and the car basically drove and idled like stock with 440 injectors.
Quote : | "The s300 can be updated in real-time with the engine running without affecting the operation of the vehicle. This means that calibrations and changes can be uploaded to the ECU very quickly (2 seconds for a new calibration, a fraction of a second for anything else), without interrupting the operation of the engine. Changes made in the SManager software are uploaded to the ECU instantly and you can see the effect immediately. The s300 does not use an EEPROM or equivalent, so you never need to open the ECU to change chips nor 'burn' ROMs. No EPROM programmer is necessary - you just need a laptop with USB port.
Note that this the only true real-time update available for Honda ECUs. Any portion of the ECU (including the whole ROM) may be quickly updated with the engine running, without the engine stalling or going into limp mode. " |

You wont get one on tdub. You're more than welcome to come check it out in person though when I'm done. Tdub garage is more suited for magazine comparisons, mocking, and e-stalking. There are some interesting things going on ( beetheads VW, arghx's rotary, come to mind) but for the most part its worthless. A very assume first, second guess second, and mock third bunch.
0.02$
That said i need to borrow a chip burner !!!11
