Long story short:

I was head of my dept. No complaints, incidents, etc.

Owner decides that she doesnt want me as dept head any longer. Calls me in for a sit down. Gives me a week off with pay to "decide where I want to go with the company."

Following week calls me back in, asks where I want to be, etc. Before giving my ideas, she says that she wants me to move to a different dept. Additional training is required. Company will be paying for the training/certification.

My "job" at this point is to make sure I pass the certification test. I am off site for the training, it is a independent study type thing. Therefore I do not have hours at the office that I am putting in.

Should I be getting paid for this time? I am not able to work my "normal" hours, hell, Im not even at the office.

Since the training is for the company and for the job, shouldnt I be receiving pay during the time that I am training and doing the certification process?

Yes.

Answer these questions -

1) Will this training help you get a better job at a different company?
2) Do you want to work in this new department?

If you answer "No" to either question then it is time to turn in your two week notice and begin a job search.

i have wanted the training/certification for a while and yes, it is nationally transferable

that being said, the training would allow for a similar position at a different company, doubtful if it would help get a better position....although that isnt really a concern

^^ First, what he said.

Second, to answer you. Yes. If its company "required" then yes. you are at work, they need to pay you for it. Even if they are paying for the training.
