AdAware will probably do it. Install it and update. Then scan from safe mode.

Doesn't remove viruses, but it seems that's become a blanket term for spyware/adware.

AVG didn't even see it... and everywhere I look it costs money or I have to do it manually... how big of a risk am I taking by doing it myself?

Malwarebytes Anti-malware should get rid of it. http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

After you install it, make sure you update it on the update tab. When you go to scan, do the full scan. Good luck!

^Malwarebytes. I have removed this from probably 50 computers and Malwarebytes gets it every time.

malwarebytes is great. We had a guy who had just started working for us and was there for maybe a day and got this damn thing on his computer. ha, it would tell you that google was unsafe to visit if you tried to open it in IE.

MalwareBytes is the best antispyware/malware program ever created.

My mother just emailed me and said the news claimed the Conficker virus puts the Spyware Protect 2009 on computers, any truth to this or what?

^^^^^ I can understand people getting this stuff, but what surprises me is their inability to find and follow basic instructions to remove it

Interesting because I just got a twitter account around the time that Spyware shit tried to get me.

So how do I know it's really gone? I ran that malware program and deleted all the infections but they say the Conficker virus is sneaky...

some computer nerd, i think tiberius, told me something that always stuck...might be dumb but its what i go by...

for every virus that stuff like symantec, or avast, et al finds, there are that many more viruses it DIDNT find...basically, its better to go ahead and backup all your files and reformat your computer

^Not necessarily true. With the combination of MalwareBytes, Spybot, HijackThis and Ccleaner, you can remove most viruses without reformatting. The problem with Conficker is, it is so new, I haven't seen any definitive removal instructions yet.

If someone finds/knows of some, please post.

I think I still have the stupid shit, my computer is running super slow and the CPU usage jumps form 2% to 30-40% randomly even though nothing is running, is this normal?

Also, I can't open Malware Bytes, it pops up a runtime error '0' then Runtime error '440' Automation error.

What the heck is going on??

Maybe a site your going to is reinfecting your computer.

Malwarebytes can be blocked from downloading or updating by some of these shitty little programs. I keep an updated copy of it on a thumbdrive nearby when I'm working on computers. After running that, you should still run Hijackthis, Spybot, and ccleaner, as well as your standard AV program and possibly Windows Defender.
