I'm thinking about selling my iPhone 3G which i just had legally unlocked. I got the phone in Australia where the providers are allowed to unlock the phone for a fee. Since i moved back to the US they unlocked it for me. This is a legit unlock through Apple. It does not require being jailbroken, yellowsnowed, or hacked in anyway. It'll work with AT&T or TMobile in the US, pre or post paid, or any GSM carrier anywhere in the world.

Its a black 8gig in great shape. I've had it about seven months and i put a screen protector skin on it the within seconds of opening the box. I'm using an AT&T GoPhone SIM in it now, works like a champ.

Whats it worth?

Does it work with the regular AT&T sim cards?

If so, $100

I'm not sure why you would even consider trying to sell this here (aka good friggin luck). just put it on ebay. i got a little over $400 for my original iphone abour 3-4 months after the 3G came out. Search completed auctions to see how much you'll get for it (and restrict your auction to US only unless you're experienced with all things ebay international)

synapse, yeh, i'm just feeling things out. Almost all of the "unlocked" iphones on ebay are jailbroken/yellowsnowed or turbosim'ed iphones, not legit. So its hard to gauge the value.

I got a PM bid of $300.

I'm out of town now, but once i get back i'll look into its value more and likely put it up on ebay.

it's worth far more than the jailbroken phones. so see what they sold at and place it higher?

whats the difference between someone running a quickpwn unlock vs what att does? it's all software right? or can you restore the OS to factory and the unlock still be in place? that's the only difference I could think of. if so thats a pretty nice advantage over the quickpwn kind of stuff (pretty sure you have to re-do those right?)

^ and i wouldn't set a price. in all my years of selling on ebay ive found its better to start it at $1. if you have ok+ feedback, the item is in enough demand and you do a nice enough listing you'll get nice money for it (oh also start it on thursday and do a 10 day so max people see/watch it). only time i set a price is low demand stuff or if i have a bunch of something.

This is unlocked through Apple. The provider gives the phone's IMEI to Apple and they flag it as unlocked in their system. Once unlocked, you reactivate the phone through iTunes and it says "Congrats, your iphone is now unlocked". And stays that way forever because the IMEI is set that way in the Apple/iTunes database. Has nothing to do with any specific carrier or software.

Anyone have a good offer before it goes up on ebay?

I'm currently using it with an AT&T GoPhone using a Pay as You Go plan (10c/min) with the $19.99 for 100mb data plan. For my use, i'm spending about $26 a month for all the voice, texts, and data i need. Plus no contract.

^ wow you only use 50-60 minutes a month? are texts included under the data plan or billed separately? can you use visual voicemail?

it's pretty tempting, but i'd hate to have to keep an eye on my usage.

Yeh, i don't use my phone much at all. Texts are 15c each on this plan. There are a ton of GoPhone options under Pay as You Go and under the Pick Your Plan deals. Pay as You Go is literally pay as you go. Normal prepaid style. Pick Your Plan is a fixed monthly price for a set number of minutes, texts, data. Its like a normal phone contract i guess except that its month to month so no contract.

For someone who use a lot of voice and data, a normal contract plan is probably a lot cheaper. But if you don't use a lot, prepaid can be much much cheaper.

I have a feeling that $300 is probably the best offer you gonna get.
