Figured this could be a usefull/useless thread posting things that you learned.
Today, I deleted my "Show Desktop" icon. But I simply created another by doing the following:
In a notepad or .txt document, type: [Shell] Command=2 IconFile=explorer.exe,3 [Taskbar] Command=ToggleDesktop
Then save the file as Show Desktop.scf on your desktop and a new icon appears that you can relocate to your start menu. After doing this, a friend of mine said you could just hit the windows key + D and it'll do the same thing...
The more you know... 4/11/2009 10:10:04 PM |

yea I have a habit of saving a LOT of stuff on my desktop at work as well as shortcuts to folders because we have stuff saved in so many different folders at work for my project. So I have 2 sccreens worth of files, folders, and shortcuts that I need to get to.

what else do you propose I do? We have a set file structure at work for our project (esp due to NRC audits and stuff). I probably access files in 15-20+ different folders for work every day and most of those folders are 5+ folders deep from a my computer or windows explorer start.
IE, to get to a file that I was working on at the end of the day Thursday, this is the path:
My Computer P: Engineering 235 HVAC Detail Design New Work Calcs Static Pressure X-7725 filename.xls
Instead, I have a shortcut to that file and the calcs folder on my desktop. If there is a better, quicker method to access this stuff, let me know though. And no I'm not being sarcastic.

Yea thats a good setup too; either way you're about the same distance away, Win+E vs Win+D. I suppose you're method would probably appeal to those who like to keep a clean looking desktop. 4/11/2009 10:48:51 PM |

Shortcuts to folders on the desktop are fine, but I cringe whenever I see someone has actually saved their stuff on the desktop itself. 4/11/2009 10:55:22 PM |
